69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
I'd like to get opinions on the codes and fonts on this Baltimore built L78 buildsheet. Do the codes match what other Baltimore cars have with these options?

Re: 69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
Thanks guys.
I wasn't sure if maybe it could be a good fake. Does anyone else have an L78 that is a Baltimore car with original buildsheet? |
Re: 69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
Might find someone at Team Chevelle - www.chevelles.com.

Re: 69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
One flag for me is when the vin corner is gone, always makes me wonder....

Re: 69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
I was thinking the same thing, but I believe this build sheet is from a car that is currently for-sale; the build-sheet trim and paint codes do match what is stamped on the trim tag and that is a decent start. It would be nice though to see the vin on the upper right corner.
Since this is potentially an L78 car, I'd probably try to verify the rear axle code in relation to the build sheet. This must have been an awesome car when new. Build sheet does look pretty legit to me. Phil Woj. |
Re: 69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
What is the standard axle ratio for an L78 Chevelle if it is not called out on the BS? Also would it not be unusual for the buyer to select the stock rearend ratio if he selected the higher performance close ratio transmission?

Re: 69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
The body number on the build sheet also matches the trim tag. Looks like a great car although the entire original drivetrain is missing.

Re: 69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
Any one of 5 different rear axle ratios were available when
the L-78 engine was ordered in a 1969 Chevelle Super Sport. These varied depending on the transmission ordered: <u>Manual-Auto.</u> 3:55---3:31/Standard-available w/or w/o Posi 3:31---3:07/Economy-available w/or w/o Posi (Posi excludes 3:07) 3:73---3:55/Performance-available w/or w/o Posi (3:73 only as Posi) 3:07 or 4:10---3:73 or 4:10/Special all Posi (excluding 3:07) |
Re: 69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
Rick - can you infer what the rear ratio is on this Chevelle given that the buyer selected an M21? I would say 3.55 but with the M21 selection, would it be another ratio?

Re: 69 Chevelle L78 Buildsheet opinions
Box 29 shows a KF prefix,which is a 3:55 Posi.
The M-20/M-21/M-22 were all available with all 5 ratios listed. The Turbo-Hydramatic400 was the only Auto.Trans available with those listed. |
