Boston Vocalist
In the 70's this band really had an influence on me musically. Unfortunately Brad Delp passed away today. He was the signature voice of Boston, who was known for his soaring vocal capability. I had met him once and found him a very humble guy, who was a true gentleman.

Re: Boston Vocalist
Strange, my co-worker was playing one of their tapes today at work and it was good to hear the old music again.
|
Re: Boston Vocalist
sure did like their music even got to see them in concert it was great from what I can remember anyway.
I still do listen to their music today. |

I saw Boston when they first came out...Lynn and I saw the Third Stage tour...the Corporate America tour and then the last time they were here in PHX.

Re: Boston Vocalist
That really sucks!.
Their music is still in a lot of us from that era...sure reminds me of high school, girls, booze and more...the van craze?!. I saw them live once too...man that was over thirty years ago!!!. Thanks Brad! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
Re: Boston Vocalist
I never saw Boston in concert but, I did get to see the other band that some of the members created after Boston. That band, RTZ, had a similar sound and had some decont songs.
I still enjoy listening to Boston and RTZ; that music just brings back some great memories and, in my opinion, sounds as good today as it did way back when. Brad Delp never seemed to get the recognition he deserved as one of the greatest rock and roll singers of our time; he will be missed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif |
Re: Boston Vocalist
Brad worked on a few other projects such as, Barry Goudreau first solo album, Orien Hunter, RTZ and his last was titled Delp and Goudreau.
In my opinion he was not the most famous, but his vocal capability is unmatched. He could be both a hard edged rocker or an amazingly sensitive ballad singer. We lost one of the really great rockers... |
Re: Boston Vocalist
I agree Steve...I had forgot about RTZ (Return to Zero). I even have one of their CD's. Time to pop it into the CD player on the way to work. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Boston Vocalist
I like what the band's website said--they took the whole website down and replaced it with:
"We've just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll." Class act. Boston's Official Band Website |
Re: Boston Vocalist
I was afraid to get the "geezer" tag but I guess it's Ok to admit I had that first Boston release on 8track. I think I went through two of them before I switched to cassette. "Smokin'" was the theme of my 65 Impala SS vert. It was Smokin', we were Smokin'... well, you get the picure thirty years ago.

Re: Boston Vocalist
I had a chance to see Boston at the Long Beach arena back in '76 when they opened for the Outlaws. After that I had the 8 track in my car forever, their music will tag a time in my life that when I hear it I get goose bumps and the hair stands up on the back of my neck. I was 19 living in Southern California, with a job a nasty street car and the love of my life. ... oh, and of course I was Mr. indestructible. My how things do change. Bruce , can you find that tune Hitchhiker or is it Hitch'n a ride?

Re: Boston Vocalist
The only thing that really sticks out in my head is one of the girls sitting next to us had way too much to drink and barfed all over the guy in front of her. Also the Outlaws had what seemed like 6 or 7 guys on guitar, but I loved the way the voices of Boston matched the high pitch of the guitar. The sound was incredible and I'll never forget it.

Re: Boston Vocalist
WOW, I saw it on the news last night...They were and alwys will be my all time favorite band. I saw them well over a dozen times. I flew to Texas in 87 for the Texas Jam it was thier first show in almost 10 years. I have been to thousands of concerts and thiers is the only one I was kicked out of for throwing a bannor I made on stage (Hey give me a brake I was only 18 at the time).I thought I was the only one to have all the "spin-offs" Orion the hunter, RTZ and the Barry G stuff. He always appeared to be a very humble guy for the talent that he had.
I think it's time to pop in "Walk-ON" He will be missed. |
Re: Boston Vocalist
Bart...no problem.
Listening to Boston just puts me "in that place". I can listen to their songs over and over...It's timeless music. As a side note...when we went to see them here in PHX 2 years ago...there was an equal amount of all age groups...people in their late 50's all the way down to 8 and 9 year olds...and they ALL knew ALL of the songs...it was cool as a parent to watch it. Holly would have had a great time...we were planning on taking her the next time https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif |

When I first heard them I couldn't believe their vocal range and the mind blowing energy in their playing........It's a shame they took SOOOOoo long to come out with the 2nd album--They lost the momentum of the first.........I still have the 8track also---Great Band....

...Listening to Boston just puts me "in that place". ... [/ QUOTE ] Man, how I can relate to that. Every time I hear Boston, it takes me back to a very special time in my life...brings back some very bittersweet memories. I've been purposely avoiding listening to any Boston since Brad passed away, just couldn't bring myself to do it. Clicked on the "Hitch A Ride" link, got through maybe 10 seconds...not a good idea just yet. Still trying to swallow that lump in my throat. Thank God for news talk radio lol. |

Re: Boston Vocalist
I saw Boston for the 1st time in 1977 in Houston when I was 9 years old with my brother. My 1st concert and I was hooked. I have seen Boston over twenty times since then and the shows only got better. My ex, from when I lived in south Florida grew up in Danvers, Mass. (Tom's home town) and her older brother went to school with Tom. Every time we went to Boston to see her family we would drive by the house he grew up in and walk around the old high school. Her brother later made a few calls, and I got to meet Brad, Tom and the rest of the guy's in Vegas about 5 years ago. What a bunch of guys. My most memoriable show was in Biloxi 3 years ago. At Beau Rivage they have a 1000 seat area that is like sitting in a toilet bowl. No band can bring in all of their sound system and the sound was 1977 all over again. I was looking forward to this years show. Thanks for the memories BOSTON. Also, If anyone would like, I have a copy of their original DEMO tape that has been put on CD. I would not mind ripping a few if a few of you guys would like one. Just PM me. --------------------- Chris 1967 Yenko Stinger YS-199 Southeast of Disorder |
Re: Boston Vocalist
If I remember correctly the two demos I remember were ; Mothers Milk or I found it in the trash can. Do you have both???
|
Re: Boston Vocalist
I have a copy of a demo with 11 tracks. Smokin, Rock and Roll Band, Peace of Mind, etc. Several titles were changed between the demo and pressing the 1st album. It is pretty cool.
