The BJ Deal of the Day......
 

Now that BJ has been in full swing, how about folks posting what they have thought to the deal of the day. What car was bought for the best price so that the new owner is in a plus position with the car and not upside down.

I saw a Porsche and Caddy roll across the block last night that caught my eye. Even though I am partial to High Performance I got to say that 50 Caddy that sold in the mid to low 30's was a steal. That is a gorgeous car.

My grandfather used to sell Cadillacs and had one of these. He passed when I was less than a year old but I saw a lot of pictures of that car and heard stories about it from my Mom. He passed in '63 and I have no idea of what ever happened to the car.

I was gonna say this 70 chevelle 396 L34, but now that I've seen what it is with the buyer premium ($41,800) it looks about right.

That old Hilborn-looking but late model FI, 426 Hemi Funny car looked like a steal to me.

Saw a mid fifties Caddie, a Barritz sp? I think, looked nice but only went to 40 something.

Something had to be drastically wrong with it... regardless original motor or not, paperwork or not, real tags or not, a '67 Big Block red/black trade hands for more than 90k all day long. Originality aside, its a nice price.

1970 LS6 Chevelle, M40/a.i.r. red/black, full paperwork for $79,000... the stripes looked funky but all in all... nice buy!

Ram III Judge for $69K...

good deals all around for GM muscle!

70 Chevelle LS6 automatic went for 78K...seems like a really good deal to me!

Not BJ but at R&S the Smokey Yunick '68 Hemi-headed Z28 went for $225K. Special cross-ram and four wheel disc brake. Strong race history. Paperwork looked impressive. 600 HP on the dyno https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/ooo.gif . Resto looked real nice. Anybody know this car?

Where did they get the 600 hp figure. I always thought that they dropped this engine because they couldn't match the convetional 302 for hp. It would be a neat piece of history to have in a museum.

if the 68 L89 Chevelle vert was a true L89 car it was a better deal than the LS6

Wow, that was an interesting Saturday night. A lot of serious dollars was spent on some serious iron. Without a doubt there were some nice rides going across the block. It was also good to see that some REAL money was raised for some outstanding causes. It was a pleasure to see Fisher House get that type of money and exposure.

As there was a lot of money that was spent on some interesting and cool cars, there was also the other side where it was buyers market so to speak. Some cars didn't command the big bucks people thought and there are valid reasons why. See the thread in the Supercar Discussion section. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat...e=0&fpart=1 Was it low prices or buy backs, time will tell. My take on some of the perceived "low values" is that when you add the cost of the buyer and seller's commission you really are not too far off on what the market value on some of these cars really is. Just my two cents.

Anyway getting back to the deal of the day.......to me it was a high dollar car that should of brought more than what it did and it was pretty obvious the boys @ BJ knew it too when they basically stopped the auction to try and raise the price. The guy that bid 300K was the guy that ended up with the car but seemed to be a bit PO'ed when Greg Jackson intervened and brought the show to a halt. It was the Duesenberg.

Not that I have that Charley type of coin to spend on a ride but if I did that was one to get. Although it went for a high price, from what I have seen from similar other previous sales there was a lot of money left on the block~

Ho My God That Diesenberg was really nice
I kind of could see that Crag was in big Trouble with that one and the seller no dought was in line with all of the other unhappy camper

I don't see Craig being in big trouble. His job is to bring buyers and sellers together. He put out great effort in doing so and the cards fall wherever they fall. It is not Craigs job to make sure these cars keep appreciating. If I'm the seller of the Deusenberg I would expect Craig to take the time sell the car. He saw the car was not bringing the money and took the time to try and revive it. Who cares if the buyer is pissed that the house tried to further hype the car to get the price up.

Gotta agree with Charley on that. Jackson's a business man and he's there to get top dollar for the seller and of course himself. Every seller must realize they are throwing the dice by selling their car with no reserve. There have been many good buys over that block and the price is going to be based on supply and demand. - A supply of buyers that want a particular car and how many of those cars are there. Guess there were not to many interested Deusenberg fans.

Not to be defending Barrett-Jackson, I think the seller hurt himself by picking the wrong venue for the sale of the Deusie.

I think it was Thurs PM...I saw a very nice 33 or 34 3 window go thru @ 52 ish? I thought it was a glass car until someone told me he heard it was described as a real steel car. On the flip side, I was amazed @ the prices that Cougars and the Boss 429 brought.

[/ QUOTE ] Evidently, alot of sellers hurt themselves by not picking the right venue.BJ next year see even less quality cars than they did this year. If you cant bring in buyers to pay double the $$ any other venue can for cars[and keep the sales final without non performance], you cant charge 18% plus bidders passes and entry fees. Economics rule #1.

Barrett-Jackson turned away over 3000 cars this year. I think any normal businessman would also raise rates with that type of demand.
