Peter Falconi's 1970 L78 Chevelle
When the Kids came along in the early seventies the drag racing days were slowly
coming to an end. Raced every night at Harveys and every weekend with the car club (Weston High Performance) . Sold the 66 chevelle ss 4 speed to buy a baby carriage for my wife. Got $500.00 bucks for her in 1975. What with the gas scare and driving it every day to work and back really cost more than I could afford. My wife told me not to sell the car, and to put it away and some later day would restore it. " NAW" I am over it dear. One sunny Saturday morning in 1980 my friend told me he was going to show me his fathers car and reluctantly I went with him. When he opened the garage door my eyes popped out of their sockets there was a 70 ss chevelle 396.I did not know he had this car. Well I got to drive the car, smoked the tires and it all came back to me in a rush just like the water rushing over Niagara Falls. When I arrived home I told my wife I had to have a 70 chevelle she told me "I told you so,you should of kept your chevelle"I told her that either it was a 70 chevelle or I would have to have another woman. She told me that I could not afford another woman so look into getting yourself a car. God rest her soul, she passed away in 94. Anyway on Monday morning I went to the credit union and borrowed $3500.00 dollars and arrange to pay it back at $20.00 per week until it was paid back. After a few weeks of looking with my friend I found one in the auto trader looked like a 70 ss in the add so I went to look at it in a small town of Omimi Ontario. I bought the car right on the spot for $3400. dollars. I also got with the car a 70 camaro 12 bolt posi rear end with 373 and a extra 6500 red line tack. Took the car home and started to do a clean up on the car only as I could not afford to do a resto on the car with 4 kids. As I was taking out the back seat I found 2 build sheets stuck in the back of the seat . I looked at one of the build sheets and then realized that it was a factory ordered L78. WOW lucky or what EH! In 2005 I decided that it was time to restore the old lady after all It had been 25 years since I first purchased it. It took me about one year of determination ,elbow grease and a whole lot of money but when it was finished It was all worth it. Take a look. Peter, it was great following you along over the years with your restoration. You took a lot of pride in the restoration and its correctness and it definitely shows. Conrats on a beautiful car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Thanks you for the generous coments. I m humbled by the compliments from my fellow members .
Rick the car was built the 4th week of Nov /69 must of been one of the last L78 built at the plant?? Yes the rottors are the original ones. the car has many of its original parts. Peter https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Peter Falconi's 1970 L78 Chevelle
I wanted to point out the first pic of the car back in the 70s .Look at the hood stripes they are square on the ends and not round. I guess this stripe was the first design. Also
the date on the pics are not correct It was restored in 2005 I could not change the date on the camera. Peter |

Re: Peter Falconi's 1970 L78 Chevelle
That's Omemee folks. Home town/village to yours truly. I remember this car sitting at the west end of the village many years ago. Didn't know the people and didn't know that it was an L78 car. I thought that it was dark gray. Must have lost a few more brain cells than I thought. I've talked to Peter at Haugen's cruise night a couple of times. Will hopefully meet up and see the car in person. Looks good. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: Peter Falconi's 1970 L78 Chevelle
Outstanding resto Peter! I've seen the car at our local cruise night before and after the transformation and the attention to detail is over the top! You can tell that this one was built to keep!
