Garage/shop parking mats/tiles?

Just finished up the floor in the display part of our shop...are y'all parkin' your cars on anything special? Like a mat, or tiles, or carpet, or...?? I've seen a couple posts where folks have said that tires parked for a prolonged time will leave a mark even on treated floors...

That's true. I'd recommend something under the tires to prevent staining. Sent you a PM.

Joey: how big are your tiles? I thought about putting a single tile under each tire, but wasn't sure a 12x12 would catch the whole tire? Especially on our big tire cars! LOL!! But I wanna do something...reckon it will stain through the carpet? That's a good idea too...

MikeA: I'll try and grab some tonight...it won't ever be this clean again! LOL!!

The tiles themselves are 12x12, but i laid them out in a 4 tile pattern, making each part of the checkered pattern 24"x24". I think you could get the contact patch of anything but a giant tire to fit within one 12"x12" tile.

Here's a shot from the walk-in door in the wall seperating the 60x60 "showroom" from the 40x60 "shop" area [would be directly behind me from this viewpoint]...oh, please excuse the lime green masking tape around the edge still!

Hey Rob,

Shop looks great, but kind of empty! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif What did you place on the floor?

I should have taken some pictures the other day. A good friend/neighbor of mine held a open house on his first completed home. In the garage, he had another friends just completed '67 Shelby GT 350 car to show how large the garage was. I did tour the house, but spent most of the time in the garage. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif

Very nice. If I may ask , what tile manufacturer are you guys using? I would like to do a checkered flag tile floor in my three bay garage.

Thanks

Mike

Re: Garage/shop parking mats/tiles?

Don't wanna detract from DaJudge's question, but Joey: did the tires stain all the way through the tile? A simple tile under each tire would be a quick/easy fix, but if it ain't gonna stop the staining then I'd better think of something else! LOL!!

And it does look empty, Rusty...but we've got a couple heaps we're gonna throw in there to eat up some space! And it's a silicone acrylic floor paint, I believe...the Chevrolet dealer over in West Plains recommended it to us.

Re: Garage/shop parking mats/tiles?

To be honest, i' not sure. I didn't realize the tires would stain the white tile til it was too late... I do know i scrubbed the living heck out of it with everything from a magic eraser to steel wool and i got the stains "better" but not 100% gone. I don't think they could go the entire way though the tile since they're more than 1/8" thick... they just stain deep enough that it doesn't just "wipe off". I think you'd be fine with a tile under each tire to protect marks on your epoxied floor. You MAY find you don't need anything under them, but it couldn't hurt. By the way, the tile I used is Armstrong Excellon, sold at any Home Depot or Lowe's. Easy to put down, easy to take care of for the most part. Just be sure your concrete is smooth, as it will crack if the entire surface of the tile isn't able to sit flat on the floor underneath.
