Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
I know they have been relatively soft the last couple of years, but recentely the ZL1 C5R versions have been under accumilation by one collector was is rumoured to have several(20+)in his collection.Haven't seen any GMMG phase III car for sale in quite some time.

Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
hi guys i just talked to her and she may have it sold, she said she will know more on tues-weds, she did say that the car is a phase III with just about every option, my brother ran it for them a while back and said it ran a 10.90@ 136mph.

Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
Supercomp with all due respect there is no way these cars will go that fast without serious modifications to the engine, drivetrain and suspension/traction. I owned the #47 car ( phase 3 ) and my Berger Hot Rod is a phase 3. These cars are cool, fast and look good too but definately not as fast as your brother went without serious modifications. Don't be offended just setting the record straight.

Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
gmmg has done some serious modifications to this car!! trust me it runs in the 10s https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
I too have wondered about this 10 second stuff so today I did a little research. Yes, several of the 427's have gotten into the 10's. I saw a picture of an A4 today that ran 10.94 with ET streets and GMMG ZL1 front tires. Also, Matt Murphy has a picture of another one, M6 I believe, on his office wall that ran in the 10's comlete with the time slip.
According to Mike and Ron, the guys who built most if not all of them, they will run mid 11's all day on street tires. Of course with the M6 it takes a good driver to get the really quick ET's. I am a little surprised because I didn't put much credence into the 10's talk. Now I do! Supercomp, I think you are vindicated. |

The "10.90" ET above I could see with work, but I'm not buying that 136 trap speed... |
Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
These cars should have no problems running in the 10s with the 427 motors. My friends 01 WS6 Trans Am(running at full weight) ran an 11.7 at 114. Car had a stock 346 c.i. LS1 short block, cnc'ed ls6 heads, comp 224/230 cam, 3800 stall, 3.73s, lower control arms and a set of mickey thompson e.t. streets. It was built by Mike and Ron at Vengeance Racing. They were the guys that built the Dick Harrell/ZL1 cars for GMMG. It dynoed a little over 400 to the tires. The automatic phase III ZL1s shouldn't have any problems getting into the tens. With the 6 speed cars, its up to the driver/traction. A little side note here, Ron and Mike are squeazing 500 rwhp out of stock ls1 short blocks now. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif They posted up a thread on ls1 tech a while back of an 02 SS with a 6 speed putting down 503 rwhp with heads, cam fast 90/90 setup, bigger injectors and a tune.

Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
The mph I heard today was around 110 or was it 115. Don't recall but I'll find out next week.
Ron and Mike know what they are doing. That's why I've trusted them to rebuild my ZL1. Too bad I didn't use them to build my 427. I might have had a car that would actually run! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Idiot!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif |
Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
what the heck happened?
i thought lamar built your engine? |

Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
LWA built the engine and added the ProCharger, plus every other modification that was done to the car. After requiring more than two years to build, the car went back to LWA via flat bed 4 times during the next year or so. Each time it had made it less (usually far less) than 10 miles and would end up staying in the shop 3-4 more months. Enough was finally enough.

" A " and " lot ". Murphy is a very good honest man who knows what he is doing. He has been to my house , etc. I trust him totally. Their motors are very strong and built for reliability. They do not build the fastest cars by any means. He is the first person that will tell you that. |
Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
I was told by Mike and Matt`, not to put words in their mouth, that the White 2002 Mule we had at SR6-7? ran in the high Tens with the automatic trans/ 12 bolt and the C5R 427 putting out over 600hp at the rear wheels.
I remember Larry telling me that he got his ZL1 to run a lot quicker once he got it to shift right and was able to come out of the hole a bit harder and not have to worry about granny shifting it? |

[/ QUOTE ] I could definitely see that...600hp @ wheels is a lotta grunt! I was thinking the majority of the P3 '02 ZL1s were down around 475-500 @ wheels? The majority of those cars are relatively heavy, too... I still laugh thinking of when "Big Dog" told me about running into his first '02 ZL1, while @ Bristol...he had his Stock Appearing '69 ZL1 there, and they wanted to do a mini-shootout type thing for a magazine. I guess they thought it was gonna be a cake walk, with an open headered/sticky tired '02 against the closed exhaust/Polyglass tired "original" looking '69. They make 1 pass, Terry drops an 11.3 @ 127 on them, the '02 is a step back at 11.6 @ like 120, but the shootout idea gets thrown out the window! He did tell me he was really impressed with the '02, though... [BTW: I'm not knocking the cars, they're some of the sickest street cars out there...https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif] |
Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
Both cool cars but I'm more impressed with the '69.

Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
i saw him miss 3rd gear(easy to do) several times and run low 12's that same day.

Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
Put a pro-shifted T56 in one and see what it does. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif The guy's at T56 rebuilds run an 02 Z28 that has been lightened up some, heads/cam/full boltons and its running in the low 10s. I've seen it run at Atlanta dragway and the car is a beast. Makes me wonder what a ZL1 or Dick Harrell car would do with one of their transmissions??? Here is an in car video of the T56 rebuilds car. http://www.ls1tech.com/videos/T56Rebuilds.wmv

Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
What is a T56 rebuild? I've got one on the ground right now that might need to meet these guys? Where are they? Thanks.
I see the T56rebuilds.com on the video. I'll check that out. |
Re: 02 zl1 camaro question
They can do a stock type rebuild I'm sure, but they specialize in the proshifted gear sets. Basically with a Proshifted T56, its a track only transmission. You basically slam it into the next gear because every other tooth on the gear set has been ground off. They can inform you more about it. I talked to Joe's wife, the lady in the video guiding him up to the line and she was very knowledgable and answered all of my questions. They get a https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif in my book.
