Neat car. Appears to be a 350 hp. Was it common practice for a California car to get an undercoating?

I think it depended on how good the salesman was..my '67 is from down that way and is undercoated.

when I worked at the dealer in the '80's I think we got $125 for the Job and old Clint would lather them up well with some of the nastiest goop I have ever seen...not sure what it was, it was black and came in 55 gallon drums, I think it was just some cheap azz crap they pawned off as the real deal it looked way to runny to do much other than coat all the underside and look like the dealer did it.

This car is now in Illinois and FOR SALE! It is the finest original car I have ever seen! It is a one owner, one driver car that has been meticulously maintained! The ONE OWNER SPECIAL ORDERED THE CAR, and worked at the plant where the car was built! It still maintains its original California Black Plates and has the selling dealers (H. Dailey Oakland Ca) license plate bracket on the front! It runs and drives like new! It is very fast! No RUST, No Damage, No Paint... EVER!! It has never been apart and the build sheet must be somewhere in the car! I found an original ignition key under the carpet in a small envelope! It has its Original perfect interior!! It is an absolute pleasure to drive. To be honest the owner had a friend sell the car way under market value! ORIGINAL IS ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE! The real deal and a true time capsule!! $39,500 buys it now. [email protected]

Re: 69 SS 396 Chevelle Original Paint Burnished Brown

Just an FYI. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

When using the NADA price guide, you can't add 30% for the SS option to a car that already has it figured into the base price guide.

Your link starts with a base car:

Muscle Car 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport 2 Door Sport Coupe (396)

Therefore, your addition of the SS option would yield a result inflated by 30%.

Not debating your pricing or the car, only your NADA estimate. Personally, I love unrestored cars. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

The price was certainly right.

The reason I posted it here was because I thought that it was a helluva deal. No one I knew was interested in the car or it would have been a done deal as soon as I saw it.
29,500 was CHEAP!!!
LOVE the originals https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif

How about some more pics of the suspension and engine compartment... I am sure others would love to see the original details as well!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif

The money is made on the buy...
I would have liked to had the car... just don't like the fact that it was not a L78.
The deals are still out there it just takes looking for them.

Correct in this case. If the car had been bought for $10K and was now being offered for $20K, would there still be the same concern about the current asking price? If the car is not worth $39.5K, it won't sell.

Re: 69 SS 396 Chevelle Original Paint Burnished Brown

I agree with Bill. Whats wrong with profit???
Some people feel that trading muscle cars should be a non profit endeavour.
You can ask whatever you want for it. Market will dictate the selling price.
I feel that the original ones in excellent condition are
the ones that will maintain their value and increase
the most over time.Anyone can open their checkbook
and have a car restored but they're only "original" once.

Good luck selling it!

olredalert 07-26-2006 08:16 PM

Re: 69 SS 396 Chevelle Original Paint Burnished Brown

-------I also adamantly agree with Bill P. The owner has the absolute right to ask any price desired. Market will figure it out, and I suspect, if the car is what has been stated, then price may be market correct........Bill S

Re: 69 SS 396 Chevelle Original Paint Burnished Brown

OR there could be some left on the table... time will tell.
With so many bogus cars out there, it is refreshing to see a real one. Like has been stated earlier... they are only original once... and with that originality comes the ablity to verify that what the seller is representing and what the car actually is are one in the same, and IMHO that is worth a premium!

MosportGreen66 07-26-2006 09:45 PM

Re: 69 SS 396 Chevelle Original Paint Burnished Brown

That was not what I was hinting at. Like any good business man, the gentlemen who bought the car got a steller buy and is now flipping the car to make a profit. This dates back to the Cloned LS6 discussion. How many people are in this hobby for the money and how many are in it for the cars?

How many miles were put on this Chevelle in the 10 days of ownership?

firstgenaddict 07-27-2006 01:36 AM

Re: 69 SS 396 Chevelle Original Paint Burnished Brown

At that price you had to figure that it was going to go to a dealer... most other buyers are not going to pull the trigger as quickly. The 69 hugger orange RS survivor that was recently bought by a board member almost went to a dealer... the seller tried to get the Buy it Now buyer to back out, becuase a dealer wanted it.
You have to be quick and spend alot of time on ebay if you want to find the bargains... they (bargains) almost always come on as BIN's and are snapped up quick! You snooze you lose!

------You know,,,,, hobbies like ours need to be financed somehow. Why is it you think that the owner is thinking about nothing but money??? He may have felt there was money left on the table with this car and that the profit will help him finish an expensive restoration on a car he loves and will keep till the day he dies. Thats just one scenario, but we can all think of plenty of others that still involve a love of musclecars. I just dont think its fair to jump to conclusions like this all the time, and I really dont think this nice 69 or the fella selling it has any similarities to the LS6 convert clone.........Bill S

Correct me if I'm wrong here. You bought this car a month ago from the original owner. Since you now own it how can it still be a one owner car?

How come there are similarities between the two ads?

Both the original Ebay and the new Ebay ads have the same Opening Statement. Same font and color in both.

There are also several exact selling features and wording.

Just wondering why both ads are very close? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

There are no Deals on Rip Bay when it comes to musclecars otherwise you'd see the ads in the local auto trader and newspapers. People watching BJ Auction who have cars now think that their car is a gold mine. Ya, I agree that some are. But I wouldn't buy a stick of gun there, never mind a musclecar site unseen.

I tried to buy a 70 SS 396 Chevelle off this guy and he mentioned BJ, and how these cars are like wine that they just keep going higher in price. Ya, I don't dought that, but when I talk to other guys, they want over 50k for a driver 350hp velle when they are in the under 40k range today. And the car is a driver. And I know, it's a sellers market.

Read this post and tell me I'm wrong about Ebay. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

BTW, nice '69 and a good price if I was looking for a '69. It's tempting to go for a '69.
I'm in this hobby for the cars and not the profit.
