It was a great show last year; lots of nice Camaros from 67-02 and it is very well organized.

We are showing for the first time the freshly restored Berger Chevrolet/Dick Arons SS/E 427 1969 Camaro. Friday at 11AM the car will be shown at Dick Arons Racing Engines to Dick Arons, Gordy Foust, Wally Booth and many others that were part of this famous Camaro. It is the first time Dick has seen the car restored. The entire resto team is very excited for him to see it. We are also taking along 2 COPO Camaros and a 427 Dick Harrell Camaro..See you there!...BKH https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Cool. I was wondering when that car was going to get out of your shop. I bet they are going to go nuts when they see it. Send pics!!

Brian,
Do you have any pics from the show? How many cars in attendance? The had always pushed to be the largest all Camaro show (in excess of 200 Camaros the last time I attended).

Re: Michigan Camaro Club show this weekend

We got back from the show late Sunday. the car count was over 200 but unsure of the exact number. The judging for the show was really poor. We took the Arons/Berger SS/E superstocker and had it judged. The judges deducted for the car not having a spare tire and told us we would need that or tools. or something even a trailer spare to get the points! I saw other race style cars grabbing junk parts to get credit. I just told the judges I would not compromise the restortion for a few points. The car still won its class, but thats a major issue. The same judges told Fran Roberts that his COPO was excellent, but needed to clean up the overspray on the manifolds etc...Can you believe that one! There was a few very nice cars there, but very slim on original or restored 1st gen cars. We do not go to shows for trophys and some of the cars we took didn't even get judged, but I would say that we would not take cars there again...BKH https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Brian,

Yes, this is becoming a bigger problem with our sport/hobby/profession. I`m sorry to hear your story and I understand your concern. Their are many judging criteria that I and others do not agree with. It must me difficult for these show promotors to find the "Best" specialty car judges? I wonder what there pay is, if any? Perhaps this is where the problem lays? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Michigan Camaro Club show this weekend

I found it funny that guys can take a cruddy tailer tire and get full credit while the restored class guys hunt dated wheels, jacks, NOS spare etc. I am hot bashing the show, but this was a Camaro only deal and you would think the judges would be prepared...BKH

Re: Michigan Camaro Club show this weekend

Brian,
You can only believe it when you see it first-hand. In past years, the judges for that show were "Corvette club folks" and weren't terribly knowledgeable on the Camaro. I recall taking 'Ol Yella, my Daytona Yellow '69 RS Z/28, and was docked points for 'tire condition' on my original Wide Tread GT's...I guess they prefer shiny new re-pops. They got me for the engine overspray, too ('Vette folks should at least know that). And don't forget your fire extinguisher is one bonus point! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif

How did you like the length of the awards presentation...hence the name "Super long Fest"? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif
Jeff Betz was responsible for that 'very appropriate' title. He would kid about everyone getting an award.

Class #132:
<font color="blue">"1969 Camaro, original restored, convertible, rally sport with power steering, power brakes and rally wheels only"...one car in the class...winner is... </font>

Did you take any pics at the show? I would like to see the cars you took plus others you viewed as nice cars.

Thanx,
Rich

Re: Michigan Camaro Club show this weekend

IMO, this is why most shows should shy away from judging. It is very hard to get enough qualified judges, and when you do, when done correctly, can be very time consuming. Leave the judging to the larger shows who have the resources to do it right, such as Vettefest,Carlisle, Nova Nats, etc.

I was faced with this for SCR, and decided the best course of action was to not judge the cars. Seems to have been the right decision, as not only has it worked for the SCR, but other shows have copied the idea.

Tom,
I agree. Plenty of time to view cars and share stories without having to deal with judges' opinions.

"Leave the judging to the larger shows who have the resources to do it right, such as Vettefest,Carlisle, Nova Nats, etc." EXACTLY!!!

Many of us have been the 'Judged Show' route for years, and something I hear more every day; "It's much more enjoyable to kick back and swap tales with others than to argue/explain to judges who know more about YOUR car than you do!" Then, there's the jealousy it creates between competitors. Just not worth it for a Plaque or Trophy.

Cruise-ins, Show 'n Shines and Reunions for me!

-----I was on 94 heading east yesterday and spotted two late-model Camaro in a space of about three miles stopped by Michigans finest, and several other Camaros heading west. I was coming back from Indy as we were invited to the Indianapolis Concours. There were three Motion Corvettes there but I had no camera. Day passed by so quickly for us that I only had a chance to talk to one of the owners. His car was a yellow pearl 71 or 72 Motion Maco. I believe he said that Joel had signed off on it. The other two were red (one 69 and one 73).....Bill S

A couple of sYc member's car. I know Rayburn Pennington from Poplar Bluff, MO was there with a Motion Vette, and I would venture a guess Dan McMichael from Indy was there with a Motion car or two.

I attended last year with my DH funny car, a nice show. And the best part was eating at Dan's resturant afterwards.

Re: Michigan Camaro Club show this weekend

As someone who is a LEGENDS Judge (2nd Gen) at the American Camaro Assoc "Camaros at Carlisle" may I offer this. I can certainly appreciate EVERYTHING that has been said here. Each individual has there own values and ego to live with. Some people evidently do enjoy a show with judging and awards, hence the popularity of Camaros at Carlisle. The LEGENDS Judges at Carlisle work long and hard to determine to the best of their ability, the accuracy of each restoration entered.
It is unfortunate that Camaro Superfest cant come up with better qualified volunteer judges and a better points system and/or guidelines.
Regards to you all,

I went to Camaro Super (LONG) Fest as lzdick calls it, in 2004 and I got dinged for some weird things as well, (points deduction for vehicle being unsafe) I guess my first aid kit was out of date or something, I'm not making this stuff up. Anyway enough show and judge bashing, they treat eveyone, or at least did treat everyone real nice and tried to accomodate all types of Camaros. I'm sure anyone who has been involved with putting on or involved with a show, how much work it is and they at least try hard. All that being said, I'm not sure I would go back for several reasons, and judging is not one of them. Some people go to shows specifically to get judged and compete, and others go for various reasons. Just like opinions, everyone has one and is entitled to theirs.
