Time Capsule Camaro
Thought you guys would get a kick out of THIS.
Also, saw a cherry Rallye Green SS350 in CT near Greenwich on Sat. I like that color the older I get. |

it is not a small block car... look closer at the engine pic. The heater core is BB.

Speaking of RG camaros... my L30/M20 is RG with a white top and (716) Ivory Houndstooth Interior.. and the white nose stripe.. also had a spoiler and delux bumper guards... now that is a beautiful car for ya!!!

The engine looks pretty much like a stock 396 with a hot coil.

That looks like a GM Aluminum intake, the car is an auto so that knocks it out of being an L78 car. So either the stock 396 got an intake and carb or the stock 396 with quadrajet got yanked in favor a L72.

Very cool car.. they should pull the plugs and spray some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders and let it soak a bit before they try and turn the motor over. And maybe even spray the motor down if they are just going to let it sit like that

Steel wheel/poverty caps and a 4spd. I believe its got chambered exhaust but I cannot remember for sure. Last I saw it was about 2.5 yrs back |

This quote is from the posting on the Ford board. (See the link on the original post.) If you swap a big block for a 350, you would need to increase the size of the radiator, or face overheating. If that 427 was put in back in 1967-68 then converting to a BB heater core and cover would indicate an impressive attention to detail. Today, the first thing cloners do is put in the BB heater box but in those days nobody cared.
The following three early BB dealer conversion Camaros were performed on 350 cars and the SB heater boxes were left in place. Here's a pic of the first Dana Camaro, converted from an SS 350. Note that it has what looks like a factory BB fan shroud. Looks like it could be an L-78 or an L-72, maybe swapped from a factory application into this Camaro. Seems odd that a shadetree engine swap car would have an all steel fuel line from the pump to the carb, looks like an idle solenoid on the throttle linkage, factory temp sender in the head, even looks like Packard plug wires still on it. Seems almost too neat to have been a simple crate engine install. Wonder what dealership sold it new? Did those add on sport type mirrors even exist in '68? The solenoid is not a solenoid it is a TH400 kickdown switch.

Oops...kickdown switch then, but still neatly installed for a shadetree. I'm sort of perplexed by the idea of going to the trouble of swapping in a 427 when the original 396 wasn't enough and not adding headers to the 427 while you're at it. I bet it's a stock 396/325 with a 163 L78/L72 type intake and carb setup. That's something that was easily added without disturbing the original exhaust configuration, which is likely why it remains. Somebody just get that car and open it up already, and we'll see what ya got.

Here's the first Nickey 427 swap into a '67 SS 350 Camaro, overseen by Dick Harrell. Note the stock exhaust manifolds.

Maybe he wanted an easy bolt-up swap and kept the manifolds? Anything's possible. Look at the last two mounting ears on exhaust manifold cylinder 5 and 7 the orange overspray is still on them.
