VERY NICE! That is one fine looking GTO.I bet that baby has some torque that you can feel really well! There will be some cars trying to catch that GTO.

13.72 @ 107 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif Sounds to me like High 12's if you can get it to hook! Are you going to the Martin event in June? I may have beat you....I mean meet you! By the way, great looking car! Don't believe everything COPO has to say about me! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: New "pure stocker" ready to race

thanks for the compliments guys! Can't wait for the martin event. Twelves would be an awesome start to the season but newbies usually need seat time and tuning trial and error to make a combo work that good. Its a 4 speed car and that takes a great deal of practice to be consistent.

Re: New "pure stocker" ready to race

Saw that car at JJ's shop last year. Very, very nice.

That's the great part about the 2/3 match race format. You don't have to be super consistent. Girlie boy automatics are a whole lot easier to drive, but most of those guys also squat to pee. 4 speeds are very hard to launch, unless you let out the clutch at basically idle and then punch it. Not unheard of to run high 13's at 107-108 with stick shift cars like that. That's what I usually get matched against. You'll never be as consistent as the automatics and without the ability to preload the suspension (ala brake torquing)the automatics will always run quicker for the same MPH car.
So if a panty waste automatic (or a sandbagger) gets you first round, climb all over that tree on the second round and take advantage of the launch of a 4 speed. What you got to lose? JJ can do it, Stefina can do it, Dudek and Joel can do it, sure there are others. I used to be able to, now only now and then. Pro tree at F.A.S.T. meets make it a little more even as you don't have to be as concerned about the red lights.

Thanks so much for the compliments.I realize that I'm giving up quite a bit to the automatic cars but what the heck....this is for fun isn't it? Does anyone remember Jim Mino powershifting that little 'bird of his?
That thing sounded crazy! Can't wait to gain the confidence to start slammin' that shifter around like he did. Am I ever going to look silly when I miss!

Re: New "pure stocker" ready to race

"Squat to pee"........old Kentucky phrase from part of my misspent youth. Sorry about that.

Grew up with stick shift cars, still love them today. Almost feel like wearing noseglasses when i drive my automatics. Couldn't do much with stick shift cars for years in bracket racing, but the Pure Stock scene is very heavy with stick shift cars since so many of them came with them back then. We always put a set of headers and slicks on them years ago, and a stick will flat out blow most automatics away on launch. Nothing greater than the "Old Reliable II" 62 bubble top or the "Fountain of Youth" 67 Fairlane grabbing second with the wheels still in the air like Ronnie Sox used to do. Yeah!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

You see many Pure Stock cars that run 105-110 in the 12's consistently with automatics, but most run well up into the 13's with the sticks. There are very few though, that are consistent low 12's with the stick shift cars. Takes a really good driver.

I'll buy that. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

As they say, growing old is inevitable, but growing up is optional. Once you're old, why give up the latter? 62 in a coupla weeks, that'll make 40 years of building and racing cars.

Even growing up has different interpretations! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

I'm still working on the launch technique, it'll take a while to get to JJ's level https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
