'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
There is a real cool Nickey advertisement in Hot Rod magazine, dated November 1966 (my notes). Does anyone have it?

Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
Ok here is a tough one, I think? The Bill Thomas building in Anaheim California had two signs displayed in the shape of the Crests above. On one side of his shop was the Nickey Chicago Crest and on the other side the BTRC crest.
I believe that you had to walk under the Nickey crest in order to enter the building, other than using a garage door. Does anyone have a picture of this? |
Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
Unbeatable team involved there ! All you had to do to order your Nickey Camaro was pick up the phone and call Dick Harrell !!! Things were just a tad simpler and cooler then. Wonder if you could pick up the phone and call Warren Johnson and pick up anything today !!

[/ QUOTE ] Ad also says: "Dickie Harrell will be at Nickey's all year round (except on race days) to help you select the proper parts and equipment for your car." Uhh, Mr. Harrell, I was wondering if the Offenhauser dual Quadrajet intake for 396-427s is the hot tip for the street? (Honest, there's an Offy dual Q-jet intake on the parts list!) |
Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
Dual Quads was standard on the Stage III option.
|
Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
Yeah, but dual Quadrajets? The Q-jet part is what caught my eye. I assume most guys preferred dual Holleys or Carter AFBs?

Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
guys, talking about daul quads!!! i got a nos. offenhauser. aluminum intake for a bblock chevy. it;s for holley carbs. don;t know where it orginaly came from? but it;s a neat part. maybe end up on a s/stock car one day? thanks bbbenny

Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
I have never seen a dual quadrajet either, but it is listed.
It seems that Nickey used both carbs, AFBs early on then Holleys later, but a customer could still order anything they wanted. BBB, does yours have a universal carb flang and the 360 degree denotation. |
Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
Cool old ad. Has anyone ever seen the Nickey Road Race Camaro that they mention in that top page?
|
Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
I don't have any info on the one mentioned. But have reliable info that Nickey prepped three Z28s which were delivered to the dealership for road racing as well as built 302s for other dealers and racers, to be used in the Trans Am series.
Nickey prepped and raced a 1957 SR7 Corvette, the famous '58 Corvette "Purple People Eater" , The "Nickey Nouse" 1963 Corvette ZO6 as well as a Cooper with a small block Chevy, similar to Shelby's King Cobras and the Nickey Can Am racer now owned and still raced by Tom Stephani. Nickey as well as many other Super Car Dealers had a history road racing. A fellow enthusiast has graciously shared some very cool info with me. It is a letter, to Nickey Chevrolet acknowledging the 427 Camaro as a dealer installed conversion that would be put into the 67 rule book as being eligible for regular formula racing. It is possible these Camaro's may have already been built and were available to Road Racers even before the request was made by Nickey to the AHRA. It is his document, so he can share it if he wishes. |
Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
stef, looked over the intake; it;s setup for universal carbs. 360 det. under side of intake, below the dist hole. casting number,5715. coil holes on the drivers side, behind the carb. thanks bbbenny

Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
That intake was used by Nickey for the Stage III Conversions in late '67 and forward.

Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
I can read that clear as day.
Thanks Again! |
Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
Hey Stefano...watch your mailbox next week for a "special delivery" of various old Nickey ads. I bet there are at least one or two you may have never seen before, including one of a very elusive road-race car!
Feel free to scan and put em up for all to see when you get them. BTW; I had these with me at Chevy Vettefest, but somehow just never had a "spare moment" to give them to you. Heck...I was only able to snag one cup of that great coffee at the "Nickey Hospitality Suite". |
Re: 'Hot Rod' Novemver of 1966
Bob,
Sounds cool, can't wait to see them! Mecum should be a more relaxed setting for you. I'll see if Mike can bring the magic bus. He grinds his own blend of coffee, and I have to say that it really is awesome. |
