Denis Gilberts Dramatic Deepwater Blue 1967 Z28
11 Attachment(s)
Denis's Deepwater Blue 1967 Z28:
This is an authentic 1967 Z28 Camaro, one of 602 built by Chevrolet to compete in SCCA's (Sports Car Club of America's) then-new Trans-Am sedan series. The 1967 Z28 package includes a high performance 302ci V8 engine, closed positive ventilation, dual exhaust with deep tone muffler, heavy-duty front and rear suspension, heavy-duty radiator and temperature controlled fan, quick ratio steering, 15x6 wheels, 7.35x15 nylon red stripe tires, 3.73:1 ratio axle, and dual racing stripes on the hood and rear deck. Power front disc brakes and a Muncie 4-speed close ratio transmission are required options. This particular car also came with floor mats, simulated wood steering wheel, floor console with gauges, folding rear seat, pushbutton AM radio with rear speaker and rear antenna, positraction, tinted glass, front and rear bumper guards, and metallic rear brakes. In mid-1967, this car was delivered new to Doan Calhoun Chevrolet in Philadelphia PA. I found and purchased the car in New Jersey in December 1999. Here's a link to the story of how I found and bought the car. This car was authenticated by Jerry MacNeish and is in the 1967 Z28 National Registry. It still has its original engine with just under 80k miles on the odometer. I contacted all four previous owners back to the summer of 1976 when it was purchased from Twin Pine Auto Sales in Ephrata PA. I also obtained an NICB report which lists the original 1967 dealership as Philadelphia PA's Doan Calhoun. If anyone remembers a dark blue 1967 Z28 in the Philadelphia-Lancaster area from 1967 to 1976, I would be extremely grateful to hear from you. I have since restored the car to as-new condition, earning Legend certification in the Concours Restored class at the 2004 Camaro Nationals, and scoring 998 out of 1,000 points in Worldwide Camaro Club judging. An extensive photo chronicle of the restoration may be found on my website . The restoration, my first ever, took 3 years to complete. I did all the disassembly, research, re-assembly, and as much of the component restoration as I could. Paint and bodywork was farmed out to Moslander’s Rod and Custom in Monroe WA. My goal during the restoration was authenticity, in that I wanted to preserve as many of the original components as possible. To that end, I used all the original sheet metal and trim, fasteners, door and rear glass, door panels, steering wheel, gauges, etc. I found some valuable parts on eBay and elsewhere, such as correctly dated NOS '478' rear shocks, NOS leaf springs, '266' distributor, original fan clutch, NOS trim rings, 67 'DF' wheels, and more. The NOS Goodyear PowerCushion redline tires are extremely rare with only 4 or 5 sets in existence. Nowadays, I drive the car sparingly to local shows and cruise-ins. I can honestly say it's as tight and as close to a new 1967 Camaro as I've experienced. - Denis Gilbert For additional pictures...click HERE |

Re: Denis Gilberts Dramatic Deepwater Blue 1967 Z28
Hey Denis, kudos to you and your Z. I live in the Lancaster County, PA but can't say I crossed paths with the car back then. I was a high school kid at the time and would stop by Twin Pine Auto Sales on a regular basis to drool. They had a great selection of muscle cars at the time. I distinctly remember looking at a '69 Shelby GT500 convertible there on sunny day in 1974. Gulfstream Aqua, white top, white interior, 428, four speed. Mint condition. As a poor, skinny 17 year old, I had to pass on the then steep price of $4,500! BTW, Twin Pine is still around although they now specialize in more pedestrian vehicles.
Again, contrats on your beautiful car! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: Denis Gilberts Dramatic Deepwater Blue 1967 Z28
Nicely done Denis, a first rate restoration job. You hit a home run on your first attempt. I appreciate your willingness to go the extra mile in locating original components, and maintaining as many original parts on your car. These first year Z's are really special.

Yep--It reminded of the '65GTO color Nightwatch Blue------Deepwater Blue--They gave it the right name, looks like you can stick your arms up to your elbows in that paint ....
