Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?

Seemed to be some great buys and some near record breakers.
I saw the Yellow '70 Boss go for $70K (record?)and a Citrus Green straight bumper '71 Z go for $32.5K

The tent looks huge compared to last year.I'll be there on thursday and hope to visit with lots of members.

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?

I think that resto-mod Tri-Five Chevy (Green/White car) was a magnificent price for the car @ $70,000. The '71 Z28 (Citrus Green/Green) did not get any TV time so I did not see much of the car. I would have liked to see that Fathom Green/Light Green '69 Chevelle SS cross the block but the TV casting ran out of time...

Those Clone cars aka Hemi GTX Clone continues to blow my mind. Those odd speciality vehicles aka Corvair Truck, Fiat Cabroliet, Willys SunRay, and the VW open top bus are interesting. Boy... the money those brought.

Call me NUTS, I think the nicest car to cross the block was that mid-60's VW Beetle @ 46 hp https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif.
The buy of the night was that 1991 ZR1 Vette with 16,000 miles at $26,000.

I bought the Hugger Orange L78 that came across just before the black Z28. Canadian docs, original drivetrain, runs like a top. I'm happy.

Are any of you guys having problems with the picture quality? All I can see are reflections of all those spot lights on the cars and it creates light "stars" on the TV screen from the camera lens. Very annoying. I can't appreciate the chrome or paint. It looks horrible.

Pure Hollywood smoke and mirrors. Alcohol induced bidding frenzy creates artificially high sale prices. I have been to this caliber auction locally and chose not to participate due to the overprivledged macho factor that sometimes blankets the scene. Love the cars tho, I watch on mute. Not my scene at all.

That car sold new on Long Island at Blair Chevy on 1/16/69. I last saw the car in 1998. The car was already painted black and was driver quality car at that time with a lot of reproduction parts used. Can't wait to see what the really nice cars bring.

Why watch it if you truly feel that way. To me it is an exciting event that has something for everyone. It also is a good barometer for what the market will bring this year.

No Tivo?

Car was very clean, looked good on stage.Had newer, incorrect center caps, otherwise flawless...from what I could see.

The stage lights are casting strange "stars" on the cars, especially the bed of that '59 El Camino...hard to watch.

See everyone there https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

A 70 red shaker hood Boss 302 sold for about 91K last year at BJ. Current world record for a Boss 302 is 130K for a 1969. However an owner was offered 200K in a private transaction for what is considered the best 70 in the world last week and turned it down.

In know all the parties in the two private transactions and my information is 100% reliable for the skeptics in the crowd.

That was a good buy. I though the same thing too. Congrats on getting a nice car.

Does it have a POP? I saw on the BJ add it says it has docs but does not go into a lot of detail.

Was that car on here a few months back with SamLBinj(I think it was) who snapped it up very quickly and then found a "new home" for it almost as quickly?

Anyone wonder why the '68 Z on Wednesday brought less than the color-change '69 Z on Tuesday?

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?

The owner of the lime gold or green Boss 351 also owns the black and silver one crossing the block today. It's my understanding that both are legit. Bob Perkins recently bought two other Boss 351s from this owner and looked at both the cars going to BJ and thought they were legit.

supermuscle 01-19-2006 07:12 PM

Chuck-71 Lime Z

Chuck,

I had asked yesterday about anyone that saw the 71 Lime car and someone mentioned it was close to flawless... I took a look at the BJ site and that car specifically.. I'm sure you probably noticed.. Many things wrong in Engine Compartment, wrong exhaust, wheels AND check out back bumber... changed bumper or not a Z to begin with ? No bumper-ettes... Flawless is a reletive term I guess.

Anyone into Amphicars. I could not believe what that thing brought last night. I know where there used to be 2 of them sitting. I am going to go see if they are still there. I also thought last night(Wednesday) was not as good as Tuesday night.

Hey, $56,000 for the 66 427 Caprice.
Way to go. The Buyer got a Bargain.
That was an absolutely beautiful car.
Congrats to the seller. In my humble opinion, it should have sold for even More !

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?

By the way, having been involved in Auctions like B-J, and have people there for me, no time for me to travel there, see my website at http://www.kuhnsklassics.com
The prices paid there are usually a Bit high.(that's an understatement) It is truely a Blip in the market, and althought the sales there help the value of cars like the 66 Caprice, it is not reality. A Note for all viewers of the auction, When you consign your car to be sold No Reserve there, you can Bid on it and "Buy it Back" if you like. In that instance you pay the Buyers and sellers fees but you keep the car. This is done when the seller sees his car not hitting the value he wants to get for it. That's why you might see a car Sold on the block and then later that day For Sale elsewhere in the lot outside. Anyway, Enjoy the show. It is somewhat fun to watch.

Hoo boy, $125K for the red 360HP SS396 Chevelle out of Minnesota. I had a feeling it was going to do well. My buddy at BJ looked at the guy's low mile '69 Z and says that its all that as well. Seller did very well. If rumours are correct, the Chevelle sale about paid for his buy-in, and the Z sale will be pure gravy.......

$ 205000 No direspect to all you big block guys but I am thrilled to own my Z and see this car bring this kind of money. I am sure a yenko or copo with 11000 miles would walk away with a lot more but Today is a good day for owning a 69 Z .

I am not always a fan of what B-J does to the hobbist trying to own original muscle cars and such . here is the link http://www.barrett-jackson.com/event....asp?id=181365
