Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Where's Rick? "Mr70". He knows these cars inside and out!
That buildsheet has me thinking... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
That Car has a lot of incorrectness.
Nothing major that can't be fixed. But that Buildsheet is Homemade all the way. |
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
That buildsheet looks different to me too....the typing seems to be a bit different than I've seen and light in shade. Also, I noticed the LOWER and UPPER 75 RED. My Atlanta build sheet has them abbreviated as LWR and UPR instead of spelled out.

Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Oct 5 Week Production, are there really 5 weeks in october or am i reading it wrong
|
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
There are 5 weeks in October.
In 1969,October 1st was a Wednesday, and the 31st was a Friday. This car actually was built on the Very last day of October 69,but assigned a 1st week of November VIN#,which is likely. Based on the buildsheet though,I would be suspect of the Protect-O-Plate too, unless he shows a close up of the embossed metal plate portion. |
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
thanks for clearing that up i feel pretty dumb https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
I have learned that the 1969 Camaro ZL2 hood is called "special ducted hood", and not "cowl induction hood" as some call it. The "cowl induction" name was first used on the 1970 Chevelle.
Here on the "buildsheet" they call it "special ducted hood". Is that the correct terminology for a 1970 Chevelle ? Anders |
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Thanks guys I have only seen a few buildsheets but that one just looked wrong to me.
|
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
MR70 is correct on the buildsheet. I have 20+ buildsheets from that plant in 1970 and none of them spell out "upper" and "lower". Also the fonts are totally wrong for just about all of the letters, they look to be done with an IBM Selectric typewriter. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif The Lakewood plant seemed to have never changed its type-set on their buildsheets up through 1976. This guy could pass it off to someone who didn't know what they were looking at.................RatPack...........

Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Hey Mr.70 as you know I am in the market for a 70 and trying to learn more about them could you tell me what is wrong on this car to help further my knowledge.
|
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Sure.
Understand I am not bashing this Vehicle at all,as it looks very nice, and the few items I just happened to notice to be incorrect are from what I have observed in the past & can all be easily changed within a day or two: ------------------- *Has a 4 core radiator top, should be a 3 core. *Radiator cap should be an AC large ear RC-15. *Emission Label should be to the right on Top Plate. *Steering box shouldn't be painted. *Alternator Fan should be natural. *Alternator Pulley is gold GM replacement. *Alternator Top Bkt. is 1969 Vintage. *Early built car, should have battery ground cable at the Head. *Has a Battery topper. *Spark Plug Heat shields were not Assembly line installed. *Hood Hinges Should not be painted Black. *Should not have Plastic Cowl grilles from the assembly line. *Should have a black Air cleaner top,not chrome. *Has GM replacement Heater hose, should be ribbed and plain. *After market Exhaust system. *Should have Flat reverse Tail light lenses, not bubble top. It's nice to see it has the scarce Under headlight Aluminum Moulding trim pieces,as Only the early built cars received these, and they added the Optional NK1 three spoke cushioned grip steering wheel, according to the Homemade buildsheet. |

...and they added the Optional NK3 3-spoke steering wheel [/ QUOTE ] It might just be the pics, but it looks like it's a colored Buick wheel dyed black. Looks like some red showing through to me. Also...they forgot to put the little medalions on the new door panels, and they look to be placed maybe a bit high on the seats themselves. Certainly is a good looking car though. You can't go wrong with a Cranberry '70, and a 4 speed never hurts either. |

Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
This is the reply I got form the seller.
"HERE ARE PICTURES OF THE PROTECTO PLATE. I HAVE A COMPUTER PERSON THAT DOES MY EBAY LISTINFS FOR ME. THE BUILDSHEET IS A REPLICA. HE LOOKED AT IT THINKING IT WAS THE ACTUAL ONE, NOT KNOWING THE DIFFERANCE FROM AN ORIGINAL AND A REPLICA. LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED ANYTHING ELSE. THANKS. JIM" |

He also sent me a picture of the pop but I do not know how to post it.

Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Email it to me Carmen, I'll post it for you.

Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Ask him to ZOOM in on the metal plate portion.
These can be easily made today. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/139808-MVC-063F.JPG |
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Is the pop supposed to have red tape isn't it supposed to be the gm tape?
|
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Look like the SS wheels are reproductions that are wider than 7", or else the rings are just incorrect, letting too much of the wheel rim stick out, but I think its a combination of both.

Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
I guess i am just bothered that no where in the description does it say that the buildsheet is a repo.
"You will have to look long and hard to find a numbers matching car in this kind of condition. This Chevelle is documented with a Build Sheet and Protecto Plate and still retains it's matching number engine and rear quarters." They just don't come any nicer than this! |

Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Looks like someone took a can of black spray paint and went hog wild on the underneath of the car and suspension.

Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
On my Camaro's POP, it has a "4" for April 69 build date under the "H" for Holley Carburetor. Did they use an "N" to denote an October 69 build date for a 70 car?

I guess i am just bothered that no where in the description does it say that the buildsheet is a repo. [/ QUOTE ] I'm with you 67, the ebay auction sure makes it look as if that sheet is being used to "document" the car in question, and it's even referred to as the "original factory buildsheet" in the listing. It could be an innocent "mistake" as the seller replied, but the fact that no effort has been made to clarify this with a revision of the auction description even after it's been brought to the seller's attention makes me think it's more of a "yeah you caught me and I'm not gonna BS you now that I know you know what you're looking at" kinda deal. What's the legitmate excuse for presenting a "replica buildsheet" with a car for sale anyway? I can understand a replica window sticker is sort of neat taped in the window for that brand new day one look, but a replica buildsheet isn't really good for anything other than trying to make it look like a car was equipped from the factory in some particular configuration, in this case likely a configuration that was in some way more desireable than the way the car was actually built originally. Please understand I don't know the seller or wish to incinuate anything about him or the car, I'd just say that in this instance there is enough questionable documentation being presented with the car that it should be THOROUGHLY inspected IN PERSON before laying out any $. Again, not bashing the car, just saying buyer beware here. |
Re: What do you guys think of this chevelle?
Yes..They used the letter "0" for October,"N" for November & "D" for December. They ran out when using numbers 1-9.
That is a November VIN#,on an October 31st started assembly car. Just a Note Carmen, that CW rear is a 3:31 NON posi,he never says it is a Posi in the auction, but I just wanted to bring that up. The Tape should Have GM printed on it,but it is also possible to have an authentic P-O-P that used a generic label maker tape,as we have seen in the past. What I can't see in the recent P-O-P picture you posted is the word, Addressograph on the side of that metal plate. There are repops out there that do look exactly like the one you just showed, missing this. Here is a genuine P-O-P I have here as an example. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...rs/Pop0001.jpg |
