Anyone know of these Dill caps?

Re: Valve caps

Sure, they're Dill 627 - says so in tiny letters on the top. Standard issue and correct for most all 60's and 70's Chevy. I find them every once in a while on an old stem. Got a bunch from my Chevy dealer in his old cap jar.

There was also a set on our new '04 GMC Envoy. Yep, still being made but tough to buy new. My parts guy can get anything, but not Dill 627's. Dill probably only sell to OEM's.

I have them on my Chevelle,& recently sold an entire NOS box on Team Chevelle. The buyer broke them into 5 caps for $5.00 and sells them at a local swapmeet here.

Go down to your local tire shop... I'll bet they have a can with 50 of 'em in it at any given time, and will just about give them to you. I've never had too much trouble finding them around here.

Re: Valve caps

No substitutes! Really, there are a couple of caps that have the raised dimple on top and look kind of close, but it MUST be a Dill 627. Just about anything crosses over, after all, they all fit on the stem.

Rick: On a releated note - do you have info on the valve extension as used on the 70 SS Chevelle? Part numbers are easy enough to find, but what are lengths? My 12k mile car has - probably - the orig extensions on it.

I have a friend who supplied GM with some oddball fasteners, light hardware, etc in the 70's & 80's. Says he knows exactly what Dill 627's are and has some (like boxes of 100) if he can find them. I have been thru his stuff long ago, nothing interesting, but I was not up on these caps. I'll keep you guys posted. I did find 7 of em in our can at the tire machine out of the 500 I looked at. I have to go now............my employees have called in some guys in white suits get me some help.

Re: Free Dill 627's

OK, My friend was able to find 400 NOS Dill 627 caps. Sounds like enough for 80 cars. All I want for 'em is what I paid.......NOTHING-FREE. Heres the only way I can think of to do this: Email me at [email protected], tell me you are sending me a self addressed postage paid envelope George Lyons 4910 Peach Street Erie, PA 16509. Limit 5 caps per friend, OK ? I will respond to every Email request until the 400 are gone, but dont send it out til I do so I dont waste your $ if they go too fast. I'm working on another source for more so hang in there. Boy I sure hope this doesn't go under my famous heading of "No good deed goes unpunished"

Not to undermine your gesture, George, but... I stopped at a local independent tire store last week and picked up around thirty of the caps free. There were probably another fifty or so still laying in various trays and boxes in his place. I guess I'll put them on the Chevelle, the Nova, both trailers, my truck, both mowers, all three bicycles,.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gifOops, maybe I'd better make a return visit!

My youngest son is getting married to his German girlfirend next month. I found her a cheap car, and old BMW with some life left. Was doing a bunch of work on it over the weekend, as I have free use of my brother's shop on weekends. When I went to balance the wheels, lo and behold, two dill caps. Swapped them out for some smooth ones. Funny thing is, I remember seeing some on Ebay a while back. I decided someone had finally crossed the line from anal to somewhere beyond obsessive, and determined I wouldn't be that crazy to go shopping for correct valve caps!!!! What's next, I thought, launching a search for the original oil (not the brand, I mean the actual oil) that was in my car? Oh well, as long as they were free.

I'm so happy that you guys have jumped on the valve caps. There is a federal law, though, that states: "Correct Dill 627 caps may not be used on Chevrolets with incorrect fiberglass RWL tires."

Nice move, George.

Now, let's talk about wheel weights. You know they were only installed from the factory in 1/2 oz increments, on the backside of the rim, and there is a specific style. See the last issue of the NCRS Driveline for specifics. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif

On the Left is a Dill 626 Cap.This cap has no identifying embossing.
On the Right is a Dill 627 cap. This cap will actually have "DILL 627" embossed into it along the nipple base. This cap is 7/8 long & goes by GM part#9417745.

Valve Stem #9422212 is 1&11/32 inches long.
It was used Originally in 1964-75 on ALL Chevrolet cars including the SS Chevelle.
The reproduction tire stores today use a Stem that is 2&1/4 inches long.
Way to long compared to the originals.
