This is from the January '69 Rodder and Super/Stock magazine report on driving the B-M '68 Phase III Camaro. Joe Oldham, who also wrote for Cars Magazine, wrote the report.

Another shot. According to the article, "ML 8907" (plate) was Joel Rosen's personal car and used for demonstration purposes.

Thanks for sharing!
That's what I'm going to make my '68 Camaro look like... only it will be Butternut Yellow with a Black stripe... getting closer all the time. |

Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
I'm unsure if I'll mix in the bumble-bee stripe or not... I'll have to mess around with PaintShop first to see how it looks.
I'm picking up my stinger hood on Saturday from Rick's First Gen... they have the one from that guy in NC that everybody recommended. They said that they just got new ones in and they are even higher quality then before. |
Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
That Motion car was a very cool looking car----How far along are you with your Motion project?
|
Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
Looks like that 68 is an original big block car from the pictures. You can see the big block heater box. Gotta love those huge tires sticking out.

Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
Yeah the Mallory coil is right above the box--And this car is using the Mallory CD ignition box---

Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
Boy I hope I am not seeing what I think I see? Looks like the old '66 Nova rearend with bolts holding the lower plates to clamp the leaf springs without a U-Bolt over the axle!
I remember a guy here that will never walk without pain because he hit 3rd gear in his 2 month old 350hp '66 Nova and the rear end twisted completely out of the wields at almost 100mph. Totaled him and the car. Chev even went back and redid all the cars they sold with a recall and retro fitted them with a Ubolt over the axle. Very dangerious without them. Pantera |
Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
I had the same problem with the first ladder bars that were first installed on my car, they were welded to the axle,--snapped the ears connected to the axle--they came out with bolt over ladder bars later, but it was decided to go with ET bars with steel bushings---

In September I will upgrade to a period correct 454 and a period incorrect Gear Vendor overdrive (most people won't be able to see that anyway). |
Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
Those Look they are for a Chevelle and chevelles have contol arms that will keep the housing from rotating around the pinion gear and causing a wreck. Usually you will loose the driveshaft rear ujoint up against the bottom of the car. But on the Chev II's they had nothing that went over the rear axle where it fit on the spring and the dam things were killers. when the wield would break and it did when you put enought torke to it, then the entire rearend had nothing but the driveshaft holding it under the car. If you were going fast enought it would cause a hell of a wreck.
I bet it cost GM a bunch of money back then. They had the same set up out for 3 to 4 years until the horsepower of the 327 HI Per motors suddenly started to twist the entire housing out of the cars. simple solution was to just replace the bolts with a U bolt and problem solved. I would bet someone here has the service order or what ever they called it. Pantera |

[/ QUOTE ] I read somewhere that Joel Rosen preferred that buyers order a L78 car and then do the Phase conversion from that starting point. They'd pull the L78 and sell it at the Baldwin parts counter. The picture shows the Baldwin Chev. parts counter circa-1968 and you can clearly see a L78 engine---probably yanked during a Motion conversion. (The original photo shows the "396" air cleaner sticker clearly.) |

---Very organized list--Should look super--Will it be burning rubber by summer https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif
Is the same fella who did your Macos, doing the panel work?? ---------------------------Your right Larry about the welded spring perches--like you said as power increased so did suppport.I showed that picture of the ladder bar , to show almost everything was welded back then as the cure-all solution, but it did need support to handle the stress---I wouldn't have wanted to be in the car when the spring perch let loose on a power-shift-------- |

[/ QUOTE ] He's supposed to be done with rear half by the end of next week (which includes priming the rear half). I'll then get a quote from him for the time & money to paint it. I hope to have it back by April or May. Drive it all summer with the small block. No, Fiberglass Specialties only does Corvettes. The guy doing my Camaro has an excellent reputation for doing classic cars... just that he has limited time... also does collision work (and a contract for all FedEx vehicles in the area). |

Very nice... I liked it so much I just had to "clean" it up a little...
https://www.yenko.net/attachments/122...-Cover-100.jpg I'm torn now between the choice of butternut yellow & black stripe and black & silver stripe. |
Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
How do you post photos that way, right in the body of the post? Is that the "photobucket" thing?
|
Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
Nope... you post the image as an attachment, then view the attachment, copy the Address shown to the clipboard, then edit the message, and add the Address as an image.
Simple really https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif |
Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story

Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
I realize I'm drifting way off topic but djunods S&S cover post got me thinking how cool it would be if there was a 'gallery' where you could post or check out old photos. I have a huge collection of old car mags (CarLife,Speed& Supercar, HotRod,CC,SS&DI,Cars Ill,C&D,R&T..etc..)from 1956 to about 1980. I keep thinking what a waste to have them sitting in storage boxes when I know there's alot of awesome photos & articles in them that could be appreciated. A neighbor began saving them at 15yrs of age then a few years ago decided he was going to throw them all away because he "didn't think anyone cared about articles on old cars anymore". When I told him I was he gave them to me so I won't sell them but I wish I could share the info they have. Friends are always asking to look thru the 'Library', even the ads are cool.

Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
Much easier using the photobucket thing!!!
|
Re: "Mindbender" '68 Phase III story
Bill,
To use photobucket...go to Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Once you've done that, then upload your pictures to photobucket. You can do them one at at time, or as many as 19 at a time! Once they're uploaded you'll get a screen that looks like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...hotobucket.jpg All you need to do then is copy the circled IMG file and paste it into your post that you're typing and hit submit...it's that easy! |
