Saturday night at SCR7 the Yenko employe Warren, while looking at Mark Hassett´s cars in the trailers, told us that he worked at a Ford plant in California when this hardtop was built. He remembered Don Nicholson walking beside the beautifully red, soon to become, A/FX COMET CYCLONE. The builtsheet said: delete, delete, delete......

Here's Jack Chrisman's awesome '64 Comet "Super Cyclone." Nitro &amp; alcohol burning 6-71 blown FE 427 with direct drive (no transmission). 10.38/148.27, smoking the slicks all the way. Where is this car today? Probably in a landfill or out in some field under a tree.

I think you´re right Bill. The red car was probably a -65.
When Warren told us about the car, I remembered a picture of it in a book called: SUPER STOCK, dragracing the family sedan by Larry Davis. The picture of Dyno Don´s red Comet (at Piedmont Drag Raceway in March -65) is in the -64 chapter.
It says in the book:"Originally only eleven A/FX cars were built, ten hardtops and one station wagon, all originally painted white". Another quote:"The lone Comet station wagon was campaigned by Don Nicholson, who later got into a hardtop coupe. Nicholson then offered the station wagon to (Fast Eddie)Schartman and they campaigned together throughout 1964".
I assumed the red car that Warren referred to was a -64, built in a second batch. But I guess it was a -65 model built in -64. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

There is an easy tell for 1964 vs 1965 - the 64's had two headlamps on each side, side by side,

Just look at that white '64 Caliente. It must have been incredible to hit the go-pedal and hang on, shifting the manual trans while steering that sucker. Open-face helmets, t-shirts with Hurst logos, black loafers with white socks being the driving gear of the day.

That looks like a thunderbolt clone. Out of the 100 made all but 11 were white, the other ones were burgandy.

This Thunderbolt was/is owned by Peter Klutt of "Dream Car Garage" fame. It is the Mickey Thompson car equipped with experimental hemi heads. Pretty sweet!

I know the originals had Rotunda's but the black car's tach is different. What caught my eye was the base and it appears to have a knob to set redline in center of face.

It was also owned by Boyd Coddington who lost it when he ran into financial problems. The current owner bought it at an estate auction. It could be Peter that currently owns it............agree that it's pretty sweet.
