Re: Pure Stock Drags
Welp, headed out bright and early tomorrow morning! Several of us from the board will be there, but those of you who aren't, y'all really should make the trip. If you've never been, you just don't understand what you're missing! Last year there were in the neighborhood or 130 cars there...some of the nicest cars you'll ever see, all doing what they were built to do!

Re: Pure Stock Drags
I've been putting this little addition on all my e-bay auctions for the last month or so.
See you at the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race (psmcdr) Friday and Saturday September 17-18, 2004 Stanton Michigan, Mid-Michigan Motorplex www.purestockdrags.com/ It's not like any drag race or car show you've ever seen! You'll love it! I've gotten e mail from people that never heard of the PSMCDR before that will be coming to see what it's all about. I was hooked after Big Dog first introduced me to it. See y'all there! |

Re: Pure Stock Drags
[I added #7 & #8 to the qualifying list above]
Yes indeed that Wedge was flying! In fact, he took out Pete in the finals...by some rediculously miniscule amount. Pete did manage to go a 12.08 in the morning session!! Kind of a rough weekend for the Canucks...JJ spun a bearing during the initial firing after Certification, Bill broke a shock mount clean off the axle of his GTO, and Pete just couldn't get the Max Wedge this time. Casey had the W31 flying, as I saw a 12.82@108? from the W31! Rusty ran a personal best (13.5?). JLerum also went 12.8@112 in his just finished LS6 Chevelle!! SUPER weekend, though, with good weather, good racing, and good friends. Anyway, here's what the final 4 pairings did... Round 1 #8 - 12.67 #7 - 12.64 (win) #6 - 12.52 #5 - 12.45 (win) #4 - 12.47 (win) #3 - 12.47 #2 - 12.15 #1 - 12.07 (win) Round 2 #8 - 12.55 #7 - 12.55 (win) #6 - 12.65 #5 - 12.47 (win) #4 - 12.54 (win) #3 - 12.45 #2 - 12.14 #1 - 12.10 (win) |
Re: Pure Stock Drags
Had a great weekend at the PSMCDR in Stanton, MI. The weather was undoubtly as nice as it could get for spectating. First time to the drags with the chevelle and what an experience.
Got thrashed on by Pete as the chevelle just couldn't keep pace. His 12.395 @ 116.09 to my 12.93 @ 112.47.He showed the way with the ZL-1 leading the chevys this weekend. The Mopars had a good showing. They are working hard to cover the Bowtie brigade. They my have gotten the best of us this weekend with JJ and the L-88 Corvette down on luck. As they say their is next year for pay backs. Had a match up with Casey Marks and just had a ball. He got me in the best 2 of 3 as we went to the 3rd round for the finaly. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif Too much fun!!!! JIM |
Re: Pure Stock Drags
Jim
I am VERY impressed with your time & Speed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Pure Stock Drags
You guys were flying!! With those et's and mph's, it feels impossible to ever catch up when your car only runs mid 14's. I have a huge learning curve!
|
Re: Pure Stock Drags
M: don't sweat the numbers, we ALL have to start somewhere! That's the beauty of this event...there's no ladder & no prizes, so you run want you run. The satisfaction comes from getting the most out of your particular combo, and making do with what ya got. And like you said, there is a HUGE learning curve, and we're all still on it...some people are just closer to the apex! (think COPO Pete!!)
Anyway, it was some darn good air, but I wish we'd had the hook we had at Gateway...that's the kicker, you get good air, but on the skinnys the extra power makes it even more *fun* off the line! If we'd have had the Stanton air and Gateway prep, I'd have gotten my .20s and Pete woulda gone 11s... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif |

Re: Pure Stock Drags
I had a great time. A bit nerve racking at times, but wouldn't have done it any other way. 790 miles racked up driving my '69 Hurst/Olds to the race, running an all time best of [email protected] with a car weighing in at 4200 lbs with driver, running 3.23 gears, and having all of the a/c stuff hooked up, then driving back. Little tired of the hot start issues that I had with the car, but it was worth the time and effort. Ran my receipts for gas going up and back, right at $300! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

Re: Pure Stock Drags
Rusty,
My hats off to you for driving the car so far. She's a beauty and it's not a lot of fun putting the miles on the car.The race format sure is fun. For those who haven't done it, it sure is addicting. JIM https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif |
Re: Pure Stock Drags
Wow! Very cool that you drove to the track, raced, drove home - over 700 miles!!

Too cool to say the least, but like I said before, I was on pins and needles listening to see if something was going bad. JLerum, Sorry, I failed to apologize about the fly-by going down I-95. I was actually wanting to see if anything was coming out of the pipes! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif Dave, I was had just turned 25 when I got the car, they did not know how exactly how I was going to turn out! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif Just trying to have the car live up to its potential! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif |
Re: Pure Stock Drags
Man, to think that some one drives their car farther than dad to race!! btw, he drives 575 miles one way. I can't imagine 800 miles one way! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: Pure Stock Drags
I posted this chart over at the Pure Stock site, but thought some of y'all over here might like to take a peek as well. I charted some info on the top 21 cars at Stanton this fall...I chose "21" cause that's how many were in the 12s.

Re: Pure Stock Drags
Hmmmmmmmmm......2 small blocks in the top chart, none in the bottom chart. They must be doing something different..??

Re: Pure Stock Drags
Hey Rob or Pete - how do they measure the horsepower that is listed in the chart above?...is it HP at the flywheel with open exhaust manifolds or what is the criteria?...

It's derived from a calculation using the trap speed & race weight of the car. I've heard varying opinions on what the final number actually is (peak fwhp, average fwhp, net hp, rear wheel hp, etc.), but here is the formula used:
https://www.yenko.net/attachments/107261-formula-hp2.gif You can see where you car measures up using the above formula, or just plug your numbers into the calculator on this page (use Patrick Hale's calculator): http://www.stealth316.com/2-calc-hp-et-mph.htm |
