69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Looks like Steve got a good deal. His came with a heck of a lot more for about the same money!

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
It looks as though it's turned into a typical bidders war between two Newbies...
|
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Wow, you're right. The auction got over 14,000 looks and bought by a guy that registered on eBay the same day as the auction began...that's quite an $$initiation$$ to eBay.
|
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
This is just a general question and not specifically aimed at the crossram auction mentioned above.
I wonder if there's ever a case on eBay where it's actually the seller bidding his own auctions up into astronomical $$$ amounts with the intent of creating a kind of emotional hysteria among other bidders as the auction close draws near? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Speaking of $22,000 crossram setups, are they really worth that much nowadays? If so, WOW. |
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Not when they start repoing them in exact specs in a few months!
|
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
That would be my luck.
|
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Well, It is going to happen in the very near future.
|
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
ORG GM is just that and the $$ will still be paid to get a GM item. Repos have been done such as the OFFY intake. I would say thats as close as its going to get unless they grind off the OFFY logo and try to place a snowflake on the intake but then selling it like that would be fraud would it not.
Besides the OFFY intake with your choice of 3 tops is still on the market. Now if GM did the 3 tops and added a 2x3 like OFFY does that would be something different. |
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
My understanding is the seller of the above crossram is the one doing a exact copy to be out soon.
|
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Charlie,
Consistant with my understanding of what is coming. Seems that there is a race on to see who can repop the first good quality pieces. He is also coming out with other reproductions soon. Phil |
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
I believe this guy is already repopping the first gen camaro big block 4-speed cross members...
|
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
He showed me his big block crossmember at Carlisle and it was a very nice piece. Also showed me a very nice 69 Radiator.
|
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Obviously we know who we are talking about. Has some nice repo items already. Made in AMERICA! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Yea the radiator looks very good. Tanks, necks, and tags all look oem.

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Yes,
Obviously the seller is well known to many of us but I was not aware that he planned to release repop manifolds in the near future as mentioned above. What I do know is that another eBay power seller from Chicago recently listed a cloned crossram on eBay and it sold for a decent dollar c/w dated 4295 carbs. The intake itself looked like an Offy with mods and the big thing was the fact that it had a casting date on the underside, a winters snowflake, and a GM part number. The base was an Offy without any markings and he stated right in the ad that the top plate was freshly machined as a clone. While it looked real from the logo and markings, this seller failed to note that the front and rear overhangs should have been drilled and tapped for the 4th bolt hole, and the webbing around the distributor hole was too obvious to being an OFFY design as well. Either way, this obviously shows that the money for GM Intakes is driving the market and obviously there are people who will want to buy the clones for a fraction of the cost. I know another carb rebuilder making near perfect clones of the 4295 carbs so what part is next? A good friend and I modified an Offy for my car and did the same with a new pair of Holley 600's. The intake was stripped of logo's, converted for a gm type linkage, and I ordered a set of the progressive throttle shafts made to clone the 4295's. You tell me what you think of this setup at about 3500.00 vs 20K for an NOS piece. The only thing we did not do was attempt to add a snow flake or part number, not that it can't be done. Its just a moral thing I guess. http://www.x33d80.com/images/Mechani...ne/Engine6.jpg |
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
the gentleman you all are refering to was able to hunt down the orginal patterns for the GM intake......the new ones will be based on those patterns with impeccable maching.....something like 40 different processes......holley is about to reproduce the 4295 carbs also and GM is ready to reintroduce the correct cam.....you will be able to buy a complete perfect knock off set up for about $8500 very shortly.......also perfect 69 RS fenders that are straighter and fit better than orginal GM units for $1200 per pair.......waaaaaay better than $2600 for an NOS pair and a better product to boot......stamped right in the good old USA near detroit

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
just a follow up.....jim is making a bold move, not to mention a HUGE investment to start reproducing these parts.....i for one applaud the move and hope he does well....hopefully this will start to bring the value of some cars back down to where they belong.....IMO the only cars that should bring the mega bucks are the ones with full docs.....now that people know there are perfect reproduction parts out there unless a car has full docs you have to assume that there is a strong likelyhood that a crossram set up is a repop and you will pay accordingly for the car......and if you want a package for your own car isn't $8500 alot better than almost $23,000.....by the way, he will be making 69 deck lids too.

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Are there legal issues repoping these parts? Can they legally reproduce the snowflake, GM part numbers and casting dates? Are these exact reproductions? One problem I can see happening is that someone can have a documented crossram car that no longer has the crossram. They can install one of these repoped ones for $8K and have a $100K plus car.

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Technically, there is no such thing as a documented cross-ram car. It was an over the counter dealer option so it would not be a factory installed option. I know there are cars out there with documentation showing the crossram being ordered with the car so that would be the closest thing. If a repop crossram setup is going to cost $8500 or more, then you might as well step up and get an original GM crossram. A repop setup would have to sell for around $5000 to make it worth buying instead of an original setup. I keep thinking about selling my setup with the GM fiberglass hood, TI stuff, Stahl factory style headers, radio delete, heater delete and Minilite repops to help offset the cost of my JL8's restoration. But every time I think about selling, I think that it would cost even more in the future if I did want to add the stuff.

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Jeff, what is your opinion of the gulf blue with white stripe 1969 Z/28 that had bidding up to $148,000 on e-bay about a month ago. If I read the description right (and I am going off of memory here) he has documentation showing that the car was ordered with the cross ram and it was installed by GM after the car went through the production line but before the dealer recieved the car. That would contradict everything I know about these cars. Another thing I remember that was odd about the car was the steel cowl induction hood with the smaller cross ram air cleaner asm.

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
I wish I could remember the details on that car well enough. I remember they said it was ordered with JL8 brakes but it was cancelled so that option was not installed. It was hard to read some of the documentation in the pictures but I think there was another option that was not installed(maybe chambered exhaust). That car is a real mystery to me, but if the crossram was added in Engineering like the 68 Z28 conv, then I would not consider it fatory installed since it was not put on the car as it came down the assembly line. That's my opinion on parts added by Engineering so please don't anyone overreact. I wish we knew more details on that Blue car and the documentation with it. Maybe since the car was a special paint they pulled it aside for that and someone saw the other parts ordered with it and they said to install them so the dealer wouldn't have to.

Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Mark-
There is no mention in the auction of the car being factory installed with the crossram. This is a long known fact that they were strictly over the counter items. Carolina Blue Z Auction |
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
Just noticed that the Headlight washers were included on this car. Not many at all that are non-RS thats for sure

[/ QUOTE ] If memory serves me correctly, the only real special thing about the blue car was the fact that the documents show it being a special paint car and that it was ordered with the Xram and JL8 options on paper. I don't think the crossram was installed at the factory and don't recall that being stated either. The car IMHO, is not worth what it was bid to, if in fact the bids were legitimate to start with. There was some speculation as to the reserve being set that high to create some histeria over it and possibly shill bidding just short of the actual reserve. I think the owner was fishing and that the car will resurface for sale in the very near future asking more than what the eBay run went to. Just my observations and my little 2 bits worth. |
Re: 69 Z-28 CrossRam on Ebay
A friend of mine in denver said that car came that way it was a good buddy of his that bought the car straight from the factory 1-1 I will see if it came with the crossram or without.
