I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
yeah, its 95% restored, need a few details, maybe paint but other than that, the engine, trans is good. it jsut looks like an old car.
the trick?? its been offered to me by a guy in South America. i go to school here in the US, but seems quite a good deal to me. (old muscle cars are pretty cheap down there, for most people they are just old cars, so they sell them very cheap like old cars). so i was wondering about buying it next time i go home, but... if i want to bring it over to the US. what should i do? what is the paper work??? do anybody know?? the price is extremely good, and i have little doubt is actually a yenko. i have also located a hemi charger in Peru, do anybody know how is the paperwork to import back a car that old to the US??? |
Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap

Just send him the money, and wait on your front porch for the car to arrive.

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
If it's in South America they are called La Yenkito Camarito.

A few weeks ago there was a post about all the jackasses that were being attracted to this board. While I believe this is a great forum for sharing knowledge, it's not meant to give credence to crap like this. What a freaking joke. Does he also have a lead on an original LS7 Chevelle?

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
You know it's funny that this came up. I have several friends in Brasil. They have seen my car on visits to the US. I was talking to one during the week and he told me he went to a cruise night and someone had a 69 Camaro there. I was curious to find out how much something like that goes for in Brasil. He signed me up on a website for used cars. I logged in and didn't see any Camaros for sale but I found it interesting that when I typed in 69 Camaro for a search it turned up a "history of" page. Imagine seeing vintage pictures of a Bill Thomas drag car among other COPO cars. All the text obviously in Portuguese with a "COPO" and "Z-L1" thrown in here and there. Even references to Motion and Nickey Chevrolet of Chicago. Don't doubt it. Looks like they like American Muscle to.

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
Seriously, this sounds like a scam like on EBay lately. Be very careful.

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
What I forgot to mention is that while there seems to be an interest in the cars down there.. In your particular case there seems to be a strong odor of fish coming from you post. Proceed with extreme caution. Wonder how easy it was to get the parts to restore it 95%? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
I would be careful too, but you never know, there is a HEMI Charger here in Norway that got here from the United Arabian Emirates, the car is for real, and very unmolested!
NEW |
Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
I agree with NEW,bee careful. But just because the car is overseas doesnīt mean itīs a fake. The -67 Plymouth Belvedere 4-door HEMI-car in Finland, is the real thing !

I guess if someone was going to pay the money to ship one it might as well be the right car!

I asked once and will ask again, what makes you think its real besides the stripes I'm assuming it has? In your latest posts you don't seem as sure about the legitimacy of the car... what color is it? What other details are leading you to believe its a car that was built in Canonsburg PA and is now in South America and for sale cheap? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
paint? its flat black, its obviously not the original. probably painted a few years ago.
what makes me think is a yenko?? the cars title in peru usually copies the importation paper car name. it said 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko. i have not seen the original importation papers, but the title always copy the brand name of the importation papers. this means it was imported as a 1969 chevrolet camaro yenko. i doubt who imported the car 30 years ago was going to pass it thru customs as a yenko just because, knowing they are more expensive, thus paying more taxes when importing. Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
A friend of mine hade a -69 Camaro that was registered as a Z28 when it came to Sweden in the early seventies. It was actually a 327 base coupe. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
this car title was a 7.0 liters, number of cylinders 8.
thats roughly a 427ci. |

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
Funny the CT title from 1989 that I got with my Deuce says in the body style description "2dr Yenko". Also interesting is that when the title was issued it had the buyers date of birth on it and he was only 18 years old! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
So much for that "youngest Yenko owner" theory 'eh Frankie? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif Maybe in modern times, but if it was 1970 that kid would be calling you "old timer." https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
That was pretty common back then. The original owner of my Camaro was 18 when he bought it, as was his best friend, who bought one as well. His mother signed for the car and was listed on the original title. And, because she was the one listed, and had not moved in 50 years,(thank goodness, St. Louis) I was able to track her down through a title search. The hard part was getting her to give me her son's phone #. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
At a show in St. Louis, where I was able to reunite the owner with the car, one of his friends told me "Tony drove the cr-p out of that car". I guess that is why he dropped a valve at 2000 miles. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif And, the most interesting part, the oriignal owner swears the car came with aluminum heads. This on a '69 Yenko Camaro. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

Does that mean Rob can run aluminum heads in his factory stock drag racing? every pound counts! [/ QUOTE ] Not unless I can come up with something on paper that aluminum heads were available on the L-72 from Chevrolet! Over the years we've heard stories of several L-89/L-72 cars, and a couple other Francis cars are alleged to have gotten them besides ours. Would be nice... |
Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
One of the things that suprise me the most is how previous owners memories fade from the 60's and 70's. The 18 yr old that bought my L-78 camaro new purchased it in his Dads name and after talking to him he insisted that the car had an M-20 in the car with the 4:56 rear! Another friend of mine had an L-78 (second owner) and insist today that the car was a ZL-1. I have never had any problem remembering the details of the cars I owned then, but some people are amazing! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif Kevin

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
I have noticed that cars tend get faster and faster as people remember them.

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
The rarity of the options goes up as well, as the years go by.

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
Actually this "story" was backed up by a couple of his friends, as well as by the second owner, and even someone who remembered racing the car during his college days.
The reason the original owner remembers the aluminum heads is the fiasco when he took the car back to Francis Chevrolet to get the damage repaired. Took a couple of months, and calls to Yenko and the Chevy zone rep to get the car fixed, under warranty. This ws quite common with warranty work on Yenko/COPO cars back then, especially Francis. Frank Radake, who bought his Yenko Chevelle from Francis, has told us a similar story. And, we have visited with a Yenko mechanic, Warren Dernoshek, about this. He said that they did put al. heads on a couple of the cars, but could not say which cars. Thus, even though we are confident that the car was sold new with al. heads, we have no documentation. And, this car has another unique feature, as it is Daytona Yellow and was sold new with white stripes. Only one known to have been built/sold. |
Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
Original owner of my Y Chevelle was a mechanic along with his father at V. V. Cooke the selling dealer....said it had an M22 and no headrest stickers....

[/ QUOTE ] Might be true, you never know unless you've got the docs from the factory. My L-72 COPO was ordered with an M-20 and 4:10s even though that wasn't supposed to be possible... Oh yeah, my car was bought by the father for the 18 year old son because he'd lost his license on a DWI. |
Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
Tom did the original owner have any vintage pics of your Camaro showing the white stripes? That would be a killer combo with the D Yellow paint! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: I've been offered a Yenko Camaro very cheap
Have you ever asked Jerry Luck about the heads? He told me he worked for Francis for a while back then.
