Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
For all you Super Car fans! You all really seem to be into the super cars so wanted to share this unique car with you.
This is a 1969 Motion Phase III GT Corvette recently documented by Joel Rosen. It is one of one ever made! This Phase III GT has its matching number 427/435 engine with only 47000 original miles. Original factory options include tilt/telescopic wheel, AM/FM radio, and factory side pipes. Motion modifications include: headlights, functional scooped hood, Shelby side scoops molded into sail panels (the only one ever done like this), side louvers, rear window, fender flares, Dodge fuel filler, rear taillights, traction bar. This was also the only Corvette painted a custom gold lacquer with unique hood stripes that outlined the functional hood scoop. The car is currently undergoing a paint restoration to return it to the Motion gold color with black stripes. Everyone was so excited when gold was found on the backsides of the doors behind the door panels. Recently had the opportunity to talk with Gary The Brush. What a great guy. Heís looking through his archives to see if he can find photos of the car. A picture of this car was in featured in Vette magazine in 1992. I have attached a picture you can see what it looks like. This car has had four owners. We have been able to trace the car back to the second owner. It has been in the current owners family since 1971. In addition to the letter of documentation from Mr Rosen there is also a sworn/notarized affidavit from the second owner. It was so great to have extensive conversations with Mr Rosen about these great cars. He was able to give me so much help and information about the car. In our conversations he mentioned he even had a die cast model of this exact car. The car will be offered for sale in the very near future. George 914 523 8689 |

Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
Was the original owner a pro football player?
Email the picture to me and I will try to post it sounds like a cool car |
Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
Do you have any info about the original owner being a pro football player? One of his teammates was so impressed with this car that he reportedly went to Joel and bought my '69 Orange/black Baldwin car and had it painted black/gold. Some one called me with this info recently and I may know of the original owners location of the gold/black car.

Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
I believe this car was offered on E-bay a few months back but did not meet the reserve.
|
Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
This car was being auctioned on ebay a few months back. At the time of the auction the car did not have a letter of documentation from Mr Rosen.
The auction was stopped before its end date at the owners request after Mr Rosen contacted me. Working closely with him we have been able to determine this is an authentic Motion Phase III GT. Mr Rosen has provided us with a letter of documentation. |

I have information that a Gold car w'black interior was owned by a Mike Taylor (aka=Big Mike) played OT, #77 6'4" 245lb 24 yrs old drafted from USC and played 69-69. He took it to Joel in late '69? to make a Phase III out of it.
He also may have introduced a fellow player to Joel and that then bought my '69 Baldwin Phase III and then had it painted black w/Gold stripes. He must have been traded to Dallas because both of my Motion vettes came from the same used corvette dealer in Dallas named Ronie Diamond. The dealer (not diamond) I got the '69 from had bought it from Diamond. A couple of years later I drove into his lot and saw my '70 car and later bought it when he traded back for it. Kinda weird that the same dealer in Dallas had two of these cars come through his car lot. So that is all I know about these cars past history. I Hope someone one here may know something about him. I sure need to find the original owner of my '69. Here is a better pic of the gold vette |

Yes that is the same car. here is a pic of it on E-bay

Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
Could you clarify what you mean by both cars were "brought to Joel" to make Phase III cars. Were they sold originally by Baldwin Auto Co. as Motion converted cars, or, sold as 427 cars somewhere else, and, had body mods later by Joel?

Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
The info I got was that the '69 gold car was ordered new by Mike Taylor as a 435hp car from a PA dealer and then later taken to Joel to be converted to phase III. Then when he got it back home, one of his teammates saw it & he wanted one too. So, Mike then took him to see Joel and he bought the orange/black genuine Baldwin NY auto show '69 that was Joel's personal car and later had it painted Black w/Gold stripe. I think black/gold was the Steelers colors? That was a true Baldwin Phase III car and the one that I now own. I just don't have the guys name that bought it.
I sure hope the story is true as it makes sense why my car wound up in Dallas. If he got traded to Dallas he would have to sell it or have it painted Blue/silver or else they might have burned it to the ground. I sure wish I could find any info on this. It would be good news for both of us as we can trace down the original owners of both cars. |
Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
Larry,
Check the Steelers web site. Maybe some one can narrow down a list of names for you. Original owner of one of my cars played for Denver Broncos in 1967. I found the guy in the team picture on the web site. I also found him on a football card and bought his card and had him autograpgh it. He only played for a couple of years but said he gets cards in the mail every year from people asking him to autograpgh them. My point is that if he was a pro football player, you should be able to find something on him. |
Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
I believe when the car was for sale on Ebay, it was mentioned that is was purchased new at Reedman Chev.
|
Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
The car was purchased, by the second owner, from Emmerich Chevrolet in Pennsylvania. The second owner purchased the car with about 1500 miles on it. The dealership that it was originally ordered from or through at this time is still unknown.

The problem I have... is I don't know the name of the player. He was just a friend of Big Mike Taylor. So unless I can locate him and see if he has any memories of the two cars or even better yet has some pic's from back then, I am just at a standstill. He was drafted in '68 from USC in California and I understand that he is back there now and in the BB-Q business. So unless somebody in Calif has knowledge of how to find this guy? then I am at a deadend. Thanks for trying to help. This is sure a great place to hang around. Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
If the gold P3GT in question is the one previously for sale on ebay, then that car was last owned by John Murphy out of PA. I had a great conversaton with John regarding the history of the car but ownership was not discussed prior to his brother owning the car through the early 70's.

Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
hi yes john murphy is the owner of the car . i am doing the paint work, and the detail work on the car. and i will be selling the car for him when it is done.

Hi Super Car Fans - Wanted to share pictures of the vet repainted to Motion Gold. I'm sure you'll agree the car looks beautiful! This photo shows the car right out of the booth - not even sanded or buffed yet. I'll post another photo after its all back together.

Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
The "other" Gold/Black car is not the same car. It was not a Baldwin Car but came from a dealer in the upper mid west as a 435hp car and then taken to Joel to be converted. That would make it a "motion" modified and not a "Baldwin Motion" built car like my '70. Perhaps when my car is finished someday and I get to show it someone will come up with the rest of the story.

Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette

Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
Don't bother looking for the '69 as it is setting in my garage along with my white '70 Baldwin car. Have you been able to locate Mike Taylor?
|
Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
Are there two people claiming to own the same car here? Is there some dispute over which is the "real" gold/black Baldwin Motion Vette?
|
Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
Two different cars. Pantara owns the 1st Phase III GT made. Original Monoco Orange/black stripe car (non-headlight/tail panel conversion car).. Supposedly bought by a Pittsburg Steeler (not sure which one) and repainted black/gold..
69Motions car is a later car than Pantaras and has the full Phase III GT headlight/tail panel conversion and also has the side pillar scoops. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif Perhaps Larry and 69Motion can throw up some pics of their cars to end the confusion. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |
Re: Documented 1969 Phase III GT Motion Corvette
I am sure that this is confusing to everybody. There were two Gold with a black stripe Motion vetts made. One was a non Baldwin car and the other was a documented Baldwin car. The confusion is that both of them are registered on this forum with almost the same nickname when they are on here. 69motionvet is George, the owner of the Baldwin car and you can go back and see pic of it when it was on Ebay and was red w/silver stripes. 69motion is Jeff, the owner of the Motion vette that I have been searching for and just as soon as we can we will both share the history of our cars with everybody. We talked last night and can now have a place to start on the history of our cars. Trust me there will be more just as soon as we can be sure of the facts.
