January '74 'Hot Cars'
The January '74 'Hot Cars' magazine has a feature on the "most powerfull modified production big block in the country" with pics of the car, Dennis Ferrara and Paul Kaufman.
There is also a letter from an original owner of a '73 Motion Phase III 454 ZLX Camaro. Also, the story on the theft and recovery of Grumpy's Toy from Gateway/Collinsville. Bob Johnson's/Scuncio Nova in action, ect. ect. |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
Stefano,
I just picked up the 1970 B/M ribbon-painted race Camaro die-cast---Ertl did a pretty nice job of copying the original---JoeG |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
Very Cool Die cast. The pics in the mag show the car running centerlines, just like the die cast, which I believe was discussed as not having been correct

Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
Stefano,
This 1970 B/M ribboned-painted race Camaro has the correct slotted wheels-------Another die-cast from Ertl--- [white-painted 1970 B/M Camaro race-car]-- was produced with centerline mags, which does not match-up to a certain track photo---------JoeG |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
I am even more confused, so we are referring to three distinct Motion Performace Racing Camaros?
'70 Ribbon w/slots-Correct '70 White/Centerlines-Not Correct '70/71 Yellow Ferrara/Centerlines-Correct |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
Stefano,
OK---Didn't plan to cause any confusion----I don't know what is in your 1974 article-- The 1970 B/M ribboned-painted race camaro and the 1970 B/M white-painted race camaro--- .-they were the Motion project 454 Camaros---set the NHRA A/MP record at 10sec--shared same engine platform[454]---The 1971 yellow B/M race Camaro--Beast from the East----used a 430ci. --unbeaten in it's class 3 yrs. in a row-car weighed 3024lbs--ran 1/4 in 9.30sec---all three models IMO were favorably replicated ---Hoped this helped?? ----JoeG |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
No, still confused. Keep trying I'll get it sooner or later.
The Article shows the Ferrara car as a 1970 1/2 and states that it holds both the "A" Modified record at 9.80 ET with a 466(454 based)Rat and later once the same car was lightened up the "B" Modified production record at 10.02 ET with a 432(427 based)Rat. Same car,two records, different drive train. The car in the article is lettered and set up just as the 1971 Yellow Die cast. |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
Stefano,
Your doing better than me, but we'll have to try to make it sooner, 1970-ribboned/painted car--this was the 1st campaigned car--454[engine-base]--off the top of my head I'm not sure if this car ran 10sec 1/4 or the 1970 white car 454[engine-base] 1971 yellow car ran in the 9's and set a record many times. Thought it just had a 427[engine-base],but if the article says both I'LL accept that. Anyway--Back to my 2nd post Stefano, I Just picked up the 1970 ribboned-painted B/M race Camaro die-cast--Ertl did a pretty nice job of copying the original --JoeG ----If this is going to keep you up at nights--I'll have to go thru my old mags to hit the nail on the head,-- unless someone-else has a better hammer than mine at hand----- |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
From looking at pictures......
The dark car with the ribbon paint ran in both A/MP and B/MP. The dark car and the white car both had Baldwin Chevy sponsorship which would have had to be changed sometime in 73. The white car was 71-72 NHRA record holder. The yellow car appears to be the same car as the white car. There are pictures of it with the same hood and roll bar. It had centerline wheels which were in use later then the five spoke 71-72 wheels. The yellow car ran in B/MP and in C/G with just Motion as sponsor. |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
Motion also sponsored a 69 Camaro in the mid 70s with red white and blue paint. It was a cool looking car and I am looking for more pictures of it. I only have a small color picture of it from a magazine.

Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
JoeC,
Can't place that red/white/blue '69 Camaro---if you get a chance ---would like to see it----I'LL flip thru some of my mags. until then----Thanks for the hand with the race Camaros--saved me from tearing thru my stash.---JoeG |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
Would that possibly be the ZL-X car that Kevin S. has for sale in an earlier incarnation by chance? I remember an earlier thread (w/magazine scans) about that car being white at one time...just a thought.

I really never gave it much thought---you know, having your hemorrhoids hit by a 3000lb tube of Preparation H traveling at 130+ mph as an alternate treatment.---- I think if the cabs in NYC had that painted on the front of their bumpers, people would definitely cross the street faster, although in some parts of NYC they might just bend over. Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
This Motion /MP Camaro in 1973 at englistown.
it's sposered by Bladwin Motion or Just Motion or Motion perfromance.. |
Re: January '74 'Hot Cars'
copo9566aa,
I think this car named PREPARATION H has Dennis FERRARA nervously looking over his shoulder in the Motion Performance car. I don't know, but I would guess the driver of that PREP./H car , either has a sense of humor or is one angry S.O.B. ----Relief is just a 1/4 mi. away.
