2002 Motion Camaro
Just received some interesting news. It appears that the Camaro will go out in the same fashion as it begun, with Motion Performance producing a very limited number of ground pounding supercars. Joel Rosen has decided to pick up where he left off and get back into the production of hi-performance cars. The platform will be the 2002 Camaro. The cars will be modified at Matt Murphy's GMMG facility, with Berger Chevrolet, Grand Rapids, as the the only authorized dealer. Not only has Joel lent his name to the project, but is overseeing things, just as he did in the past. I am not for sure what will be under the hood, but Joel did tell me that it would surpass anything GMMG has produced so far. Hum.

Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
Sounds like a winner to me! I am just wondering how they are going to stroke that LS-1 to 454 cubes so that it will be like the 70 Camaros! Any word if the cars will be painted like the originals?

Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
This is a great project for us to be able to work hand in hand with Joel and we are just getting started on the project. Any questions concerning the project need to be addressed directly to Dennis Barker at Berger Chevrolet @ 616.437.4300 (cell) or (616.794.3523home office). You can also e-mail me at or I will be handling the project soley from Berger Chevrolet's standpoint.
Thank You, Dennis Barker Camaro project Manager Berger Chevrolet |
Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
At this point, the paint scheme from the '70 Motion cars is being considered. This, and other items, such as wheels, hood, power plant, etc. are issues being decided as we speak, by Joel, Matt, Dennis, and others.
One thing I do know, Joel is very excited about geting back into the supercar hobby. Glad that the sYc was able to help coax Joel back into the hobby he helped create. |

Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
How would you guys get the actual Camaro's? Build out for 2002 Camaro's had to be almost a year ago. Would the Camaro's be 03 models or very very late build 02's? I have two new 2002 Ford models left on my lot and and we are in panic mode trying to get rid of them since they are killer on the floor plan. How do you guys feel that they will be 2 model years old when they are done? The 2004 models are right around the corner.
It does seem like a cool idea none the less. |
Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
The cars will be new, 2002 Camaros. That is one reason there will only be only a very limited number built. The search for "donor' cars began a few weeks ago, and I believe most, if not all, have been obtained. I would suggest that any one who is interested in one contact Dennis ASAP, as I knew several are already spoken for.

Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
I think I heard a similar story somewhere before. Let's see, if I remember my old articles it happened sometime in 1967....

Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
A 2002 Motion Camaro would be great if done right. No two Motion cars were exactly the same but Joel built his cars similar from 1967 to 1989. Motion glass hood, Motion rear wing, Motion stripes & emblems, side pipes, Grant wheel, Hurst shifter, M/P window decals, and a lot of HP.

Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
I can't help you on what the styling will be, but I did come across this in a medical dictionary------
bergermotion:---SYMPTOMS:-glazed-over eyes, fixed frozen smile. CAUSES:--a person being propelled, while sitting inside a metal container with wheels, down a strip of level ground to a point a 1/4 mile away, before you can finish tying your shoes. ie: FUN!!! Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
Cool project
Just imagine a 2002 Motion Yellow with black Phase III striping stinger Hood or Scoop and side pipes... Motion emblems For mag wheels ??? and a lot of HP. |

Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
The 2002 Berger-Motion Phase III SS-427 CAMARO is SOMETHING ELSE! (Where have you heard this quote before? 1968?) It is going to be a very cool project to be involved in. Joel is very excited, too bad Dennis Barker just isn't that excited, "YEAH RIGHT... " Seriously, we are going to have fun with this car and if you can get one of the 15 to 20 we build, you will be amazed. Joel is going to be here to work with us and help any way he can. This will not be just a signature car; but like Dale's Intimidator SS, Joel is going to be instrumental in the design and final engine options. Right now, the theme will be like his SS-427 cars from 68 and 69, with the 70's style stripes. Don't expect some big spoiler (except for maybe car #3, Charlie ) and side pipes; but, maybe a different styled hood, and some 18" vintage wheels, supercharged, built Turbo 400's, 12 bolts, and a whole lot more. One thing is for sure, Joel wants this car to be true to the Motion cars from the 60's and 70's, the baddest thing on the road. The plan for the SS-427 car, if you opt for all phases, is going to blow everything on the road to the side. I'll say one thing, we will have Joel guarantee a 1/4 mile time, maybe in the _ _ _'s. We will be testing something this weekend, somewhere in the south, a 1/4 mile at a time. Stay tuned . . . and TAKE an ATTITUDE! . . .

Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
how bout testing it in the far south say Hawaii Raceway park
Good weather year round and Ill can promise some Hula girls to be part of the pit crew |
Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
The 2002 Motion CAMARO is going to need a lot of HP to match the King Kong 454 Motion Vega that Joel advertized as a 9 sec street car. That was 30 years ago so the new car should be quicker which means you need to build an 8 sec 2002 car.

I would take Jeff up on his Offer. Think about....A Jack Lord looking spokesman & Hula Girls! |

OK OK... Now that Matt is threatening a Wing on my Car I will show you all why. Matt went and watched 2Fast and 2Furious and just had to have another car so last Weekend at Carlisle I have to drive him to a Chevy Dealer and he drives out in this. We had tears in our Eyes when we saw it.

That wing will look pretty good on a 2002 Motion Camaro. Joel R. likes wings. That wing is close to the Motion wing Joel had on his 87 SS Monte Carlo Aero Coupe. (see pic) He drove this car from 87 to about 97. Joel also likes nitrous and used to sell and refill it at his shop. His Monte SS had a supercharged 350 with 20lb nitrous bottle in the trunk.
With a 2002 Phase III supercharged CR5 427 Camaro on the juice you will need a wing for high speed downforce traction so the tires don't break lose when you hit the button at 100mph. |

That wing is big but conservative compared to the Motion wing Joel had on his wife's Motion Mustang GT convertible. She drove this car from 89 to 2002. This thing will probably fly a B17.

Re: 2002 Motion Camaro
Will these cars have big blocks in them, or is the small block the only option?

Joel was ahead of his time in the wing department. This is a 1969 Motion Camaro wing. I don't think many people ordered it in 69. I use it as an ironing board.

What hood will look better - the stinger or L88 style? I am thinking L88 style with SS 427 emblems and hood tach. What do the other Motion fans think? |
