Completely off topic, but that MIC notepad reminded me of that insurance company. When I worked at the Buick dealer in OKC back in the 70s they routinely sold MIC policies to customers as an extended warranty on new cars (after GM went from 5/50 to 1/12). They also sold policies on used cars. Horrible coverage. The way the claims were handled, only the original part that failed was covered. Example: Water pump fails. Fan comes off and goes through the radiator. MIC would only pay to replace the water pump, but nothing else. Not the fan and not the radiator. All the techs referred to it is MICKEY MOUSE insurance. Lots of unhappy customers.
Sorry for the hijack. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

TimG 02-10-2026 02:57 PM

Lynn, being in the insurance business for 43 years, that can be a problem. Head gasket goes, you get a new $25 head gasket, but the $5,000 to replace the gasket is not covered.

That's a rip off.

You're welcome!

First thing.... that stupid air cleaner sticker needs to go!

Charley Lillard 02-10-2026 04:02 PM

Why didn't you tell me that before I bought it ??????

grantprix 02-10-2026 04:43 PM

Be thankful that I told you now before your first Cars & Coffee. 😆

Charley Lillard 02-11-2026 01:09 AM

He has already removed it.

grantprix 02-11-2026 01:15 AM

Ha! He may have asked me about that and I told him then.

I see it has the "Big Boy" alternator for rear defroster cars. 80A I think?

And TWO springs to pop the size of Delaware hood up... LOL
As said, beautiful car !

----This 71 beauty of an SJ was optioned virtually the same as the 72 GP SJ that I ordered new in late 71. Only difference was that I had Pewter Silver with matching fabric int and the rubber faced Honeycombed wheels. Brings back good memories, Charley. And,,, yours is a gem, as usual. Love it!....Bill S

Bill, your SJ sounded similar this one I bought from the original owner back in 2003. It was a nicely optioned Model J including the 455. It had the all vinyl Pewter interior. As you can see it needed paint, but was a good solid original car overall. Last photo I received from the current owner several years ago taken after he had it painted.

----Thanks, Grant! I really loved that 72. The white vinyl top was one thing that helped. The thing I'll never forgive GM for was the visual changes under the hood from 1969. Chrome valve cover, air cleaner lid and other minor stuff gone, but GM had a way of de-contenting after they had a home run (69 GP SJ) which had all of the above. Damn penny pinchers!....Bill S

Here's a white top version... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-grand-prix-9/

----Thanks Grant! If that had that important "S" I believe I'd be a bidder, even without the cloth seats. This is the 1st 72 I ever seen other than mine in this color combo. I very quickly popped a set of 15/7 American daises and white lettered Goodyears on mine....Bill S

Beautiful GP! Grant, you have an uncanny way of sniffing these out. Congratulations and welcome to the club, Charley. Mine's 55 cubes down on yours but I love it no less. That herringbone cloth is some of the sexiest stuff ever stretched over a lavishly overstuffed foam cushion and comparatively few seem to have been so equipped.
