storage unit find 69Z28 project
8 Attachment(s)
I thought i would share a few pics. of this 69Z i got last month. Its an early car 10 D pre x code car. Been in some type of storage for over 45 years. The owner died of covid shot issues and willed it to his niece. She had no means to be able to put it back together and decided to sell it. Hasn't been on the road since 1977. Motor and trans are missing. Came with another DZ block but its bad and a hot rod 350 that is bad too. The 480 dist. was laying in the back floor and the orig. flywheel was there too. Orig 373 rear it still there and orig rad. too The car was orig. paint before they started stripping it. Needs lower quarters and outer wheel house work. Only other rust is at the bottom of the dash. Had a w/s installed at some point and i'm sure they scored the dash metal and started it rusting. Floors have no rust. Only sheet metal missing was the right fender but it has a nos fender with it. Real red on red z car. Interior is complete and orig. minus the dash pad.

Solid car. Lots of potential with original interior.

69 z....
Very cool...
Any chance it could be cleaned up and driven as is [with a motor of course]..?? Rear housing looks great...no pitting that I see. Why no power booster for the brakes..?? Good luck... -wilma |
yes I'm going to clean it up and drive it. at some point it was drag raced so they took the booster off. It was with the car too. I have it back on
|
I've seen the car in person at Kerry's Shop and it was a good score. The car is in very nice condition and Kerry is bringing it back to life.
The original dated brake booster came with the car but it was removed for some reason. |
Great find. Love Red/Red.
In a situation like this what will you do for an engine. I.e. build a 302, or say a L79 or LT-1 that looks like a 302? |
Yes I will be putting something that's looks correct maybe another DZ that I have a lead on.
|
Awesome discovery.I love Red/Red Blk stripes.
Please keep posting it's progress along the way. |
That's a great find.
|
I'm sure they are correct, but the black seat belts and shoulder belts look like they should be red. I remember the belts on my '69 Pace Car were black, but that was an orange interior.
|
Great score! Congrats!

nice find kerry. red on red is a great color combination. i like the early 69 Z29. flat hood and no spoilers
|
Tim,the extra cost deluxe seatbelt was red for a red interior, the std.seatbelt color was black.
Same for the '70 chevelle. |
the grill has been replaced, should be silver
|
great find Kerry - love the red headliner too!!

The "Field" under Seat Belt Color i.e. STD / DELUXE is refereeing to the "Belts" not interior. as in You Could Order a STD red int with Deluxe Red web belts. Belts RPO style were independent of int. Link https://www.camaros.org/seatbelt.shtml#color it would be helpful if the table added / altered it to read. SEAT BELT COLOR Standard Belts // Deluxe Belts Joe do I have this right>??? Oh Great Car & found project Have fun with it. |
That's right,I worded it wrong.
Meant to say the red seatbelt was as extra cost option for a red interior, not automatically included. I didn't see Joes' earlier reply saying same. Edited it,thanks. |
Thanks for the pics. Sure is solid and what a great project. Find a nice DZ Block and build a 302 and get a nice muncie 4 speed M21. Keep us posted.
|
Seatbelts can and have confused a lot of us over time. Similar confusion seeing std belts with custom interior or deluxe belts in std. interior.
Great pick up Kerry..... Congratulations....... |
thanks , Back when i was restoring cars this would have been a great project. Its like finding one from the 80's. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to purchase it
|
Kerry,
It is even better than you described on the phone. Congrats with the find!!! |
Please don't put a cowl hood on it unless you verify it had one originally
|
Apologies forwarded.......but if that were mine I'd give it a laced and gold pinstriped vintage paint job, a bit of day 2 under the hood and keep the interior as-is. Vintage square tires with a rake on your choice of TT, 200s, or cragars, and you've got something that'd marvel all of our minds. But any which way, a red on red Z is the chit.
There, the seed is planted. |
Well there is 0 chance of a cowl hood or spoiler going on. But I must say the owner had bought a cowl hood and a spoiler for it. Thank goodness he didn't drill any holes in the deck lid. I have the spoiler for sale on this site. All interior will remain just cleaned up. May never find a nice used red dash pad. So I have a repro coming.
|
That looks solid. Nice find!!

Kerry pointed this out to me several weeks ago, but did anybody else notice the factory misalignment of the pinstriping where the Hood meets the cowl?
Awesome car, glad it found you! |

I’ve told this before on the site. My cousin Jerry Stephens hired in at the Norwood plant in 1968. He worked there until the buy outs started when they announced the plant closing. Jerry told me he never heard a single word from any management people about quality. It was always production! Get em out the door as quick as they possibly could.
This stripe misalignment sounds like a nothing thing back then. Get it out the door n hurry up! |
hood and cowl are 100% orig. paint

Hello Steve hope you and your brother are doing well on this new year. Yes we will build some kind of a correct appearing motor and have fun with the car. Got leads on a couple 302 blocks. Thanks Kerry
