2 Attachment(s)
Hi All
I am looking at a 69 12 bolt for my L78 Nova.The center housing has 3894860N
Cast in and under the 12345 cast number it looks like B789.The axel tube is stamped BT0927G
E
Looks like a bad or repo stamp because the T is deep and miss aligned .I will try to add a picture. Looking for help identifying and verifying
Thanks Mike

Axle Stamp...

I don't have a real issue with the funny looking "T"...have seen these before.

If someone was going to restamp...it would likely be for a more valuable code.

As for the B789....B is for February...the 9 is for 1969...as for the day of the month, it is not possible to have '78'...

What is the build date of the car and dates for engine and trans...???

12 bolt...

PM sent....

The "B" in the number string is a 6. The 2 sets of numbers are 12345...67890. All axles have this. No clue as to why, but I see it all the time, it doesn't not pertain to this axle in particular.

The 0927 is the build date, Sept 27 of '68 for '69 model cars, way too early for a 03/March build.

12 bolt

Hello
Thanks for the feedback.Car shipped 3/15/69 so what would be the approximate build date?

Too Many Projects 12-09-2025 11:29 PM

Hard to say build date, there should be a trim/build tag on the firewall with an approximate week code. USUALLY, they didn't let them sit around at the plant more than a few days. My '70 Chevelle final build day was May 4th and the ship day was the 5th, but there could be extenuating circumstances for a delay too. The NCRS data report has some of that on it along with the assigned dealer.

That is 100% a factory original stamping. BT is 3.55 posi and 0927 is September 27th. You need to show us the actual casting date of the rear end. The other numbers you pictured is not the casting date. It will be in the webbing around the pumpkin.

No, a posi code would be included with the assembly code with an E as you have in the first pic.

12 Bolt...

That is the casting number for the 12 bolt center section....68-69 Nova and Camaro

The posi designation is in the stamp on the tube...there will be an E below the gear ratio and date. the E stands for Eaton Posi...of course, you should always look inside to confirm what is in there.

12 bolt...

Mike...

One more thing...should have clarified...the BT code actually designates the posi from the factory...the E indicates the supplier of the unit. If you look at Colvin's book you will see a listing for all the possible codes and applications.

dding a couple pictures of the 12 bolt think I have the date but it’s hard to read. Also getting the leaf springs and traction bars .$1700 . What do you think

iluv69s 12-12-2025 02:59 PM

Looks like 09(?)- 24-8 for the cast date and 09-27 for assembly date. ( Thought cast date should have letter for month ).

Great for an early car ! $1700 is a great deal if it’s a working complete rear . Jmho

Too Many Projects 12-12-2025 03:29 PM

Seller needs to be willing to pull the rear cover so you can see what is actually in there.... assembly build codes guarantee nothing after all these years and with a non original cover, there could anything, including trashed components, in there.

I am looking at Lakewood traction bars the kind with J Bolts and they extend in back with another clamp.I am trying to verify they are Camaro/nova . I will post some pictures.
Can anyone tell me anything about the leaf springs pictured? 5 leaf? GM or aftermarket?
