FBI contact info
Hi, long story short, I consigned my 1978 Z28 to a dealer in Michigan. I was called by the business owner on Aug 22 to see "if you lower your price $2,000.00 NOW, I have a cash deal and money will be wire today?" So I did, sent my banking info, hand got a text saying SENT.
Now there has been some issues they say about the wire transfer, so offer to overnight a cashiers cheque. That was 4 days ago. Tracking says the "package" is now in BEDFORD IL. It should have went from Michigan right to Ontario???? I have all documentation of correspondence, and tried tips.fbi.gov and detroit.fbi.gov And email say BOTH are bad and will not send. ANYONE HAVE A DIRECT EMAIL THAT IS NOT .GOV for FBI in Detroit? Thank you, John |
Whereabouts in Michigan?
The "package" refers to the cashier's check? K |
Yes the "package" is cashiers cheque and t shirt. It's by Frankenmuoth

I sold a car on the internet years ago and got a cashier's check that was counterfeit. I contacted the FBI and they were not interested.

Don't count on them caring, unless, you have evidence it is a ring with extensive activity. Occasional screwing of citizens isn't a big deal to them.
Same with the USPS inspectors of fraud and other mail crime. Just them mailing false documents is a crime, but again, if it isn't big enough to be worth their time, they don't do anything. This is the contact info for Michigan as copied from the FBI website. https://www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices/detroit Direct phone # (313) 965-2323 |
Maybe I missed it, but where is the car?
|
What dealer? I’ve seen this before, and it’s not a happy ending. I’m hoping you’re the 1st.
|
The car was brought to the dealer in Michigan from Canada.
RCMP said that actually it's not in their area. Actually about 15 yrs ago, most police departments in Canada have a officer that is in contact with Interpol for these over the boarder things. Due the the car NOT being imported into the USA from Canada can lead to this being an international case, charges can be brought in Canada or USA, as per RCMP. Name will be revealed on Tuesday after discussion with law enforcement. |
Who has possession of said car right now?
|
Southern Ontario is home to a HUGE number of car enthusiasts as well as shops like Legendary, the Guild, Fawcett's (Whitby) etc, so I have to ask, what was your reasoning behind/expected benefit of crossing an international border to hopefully sell your car in the States?
I am not trying to kick anyone while they are down and I do hope you get your issues resolved but I have never had an issue selling a car/finding a buyer in the GTA. |
I've always said it; " dealers are stealers". Too many shysters in that business.

Will update in 24/48hrs. I'm supposed to receive the package (cheque and T shirt) today.
Thanks John |
Just an FYI on international shipping, even on "overnight" packages. I just had a headlight vacuum pod come from a rebuilder in New Brunswick Canada, straight north and east of me in NJ. It went via USPS. It took a week because it had to go to a centralized US Customs hub in Cleveland, Ohio. I just sent back the old vacuum pod as a core and it is taking an equally circuitous route back.
And as for federal law enforcement getting involved, the U.S Attorneys' Offices have prosecutorial guidelines that are usually in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions as a minimum, before they will look at a case. As a result, the federal law enforcement agencies really can't do anything to investigate incidents such as these, however common they are, sadly. |
go get your car

WELL, after not getting anywhere with USPS, and WHY a "package" just outside of Detroit, would go through Chicago and then BEDFORD is beyond me. And why would a USPS spokesperson on the phone say that "a package going from Detroit will cross over to Windsor and NOT head to IL" is beyond me.
And not getting any updates on the USPS site from Friday till just now, IDK. BUT IT DID WORK OUT FOR THE BEST AND THE "PACKAGE" OF A CASHIERS CHEQUE AND T SHIRT WAS JUST DELIVERED. THANK YOU to all who give their thoughts and opinions, all were appreciated. John |
congrats, you must have been sitting on pins and needles...

Happy for the good news, but don't count your chicks 'til about 5 days after the check clears! "Cashiers checks" are easily faked nowadays.
Good luck! |
Take that check directly to your bank tomorrow and have them call the source and confirm the funds are there and put a hold on them to fund the check.
Trust no one until the money is in your bank. |
YES, going to the bank, already set up a meeting to do this. NOT sending the ownership till the BANK know the funds are there and no issues, then it will move.
|
Went through something like this a little while ago with the USPS. 3 weeks for a check to go from NH to WI. Delayed at multiple post offices for no apparent reason. Never again, When it comes to checks and or important paperwork UPS or FED-EX, next day or 2nd day air signature required. Yes more money but a lot less aggravation. The USPS service has gotten pretty bad.
|
A call to the bank this morning show a cheque with this number, amount, date, payee and remitter was made indicating that this is a genuine cashiers cheque.
BUT Still holding everything till MY BANK clears these funds 100%. |
FWIW, Bedford Park is part of Chicago, so it really wasn't going to two different places. Glad things finally appear to be going your way.
|
Good to hear
I started calling the issuing banks of the cashiers check to verify if they made one. I even called a bank before the guy came and handed it to me a while back and without too many details they confirmed it was legit. Don't get me wrong I still waited the obligatory amount of time before I transferred titles |
