66 L79 Chevy II first real drive in 35 years

Woke up early this morning and decided I wanted to take our Chevy II for a short drive. This was probably the longest drive it been on in close to 35 years. I've driven it around the block a few time but that's been about it. I didn't want to go too far as the tires are just about as old as the car. I have to say it runs really good, and as the tires warmed up amazingly things smoothed out. Needless to say I had a good time this morning and plan on driving it to a local show next weekend. Anyways I thought I'd share a few videos and couple of pictures. Aztec Bronze really pops in the sun!

Great to see it out for a run. Even if it gets a few hundred more miles on the odo, it's going to be every bit as cool!

When i saw the title, I was expecting to see a Chevy II but it is a Nova SS

I agree, a few hundred miles wouldnt matter one bit.

----Wish there was some way to trade you out of your Nova, as I loved the car when I saw it at MCACN. I have boats and cars and cash to throw at you if there's even a hint of interest!....Bill S

what do you do for gas? The crap we get today lasts a few months. The additives you put in to preserve it dont seem to work like it once did.

Frank I can get 91 octane no ethanol gas around my parts and it seems to work well, no issues in several years with 3 old cars. Put in all my yard equipment too.

We have a fairly local gas station that sells 100 octane right at the pump. Think it's Cam2 or Vp racing fuels. Much longer shelf life, well over a year, and you don't have to worry about damage that today's fuel will cause.

Thanks! Only thing that scares me are the tires, don't want to push my luck with any long drives. But some short local drives I think are ok. Amazingly once the tires got a little heat in them things really smoothed out a bit.

We had the Chevy II out again the weekend. Drove it over to our 24th annual Cruising Downtown show early Saturday morning with a few other cars. We were pretty lucky to have our friend Bob bring out his beautiful 67 Indy Pace car to the show.

Tires should be fine on a cool day with speeds under 45mph.

Thanks Pete for posting that. I have a ton pictures, over 2000 of them. I tried to photo document the car best I could as we throughly detail it and looked for a build sheet.
