69 Nova sending unit
2 Attachment(s)
Hoping someone here may have some info on the differences between L34 and L78 sending units. I’ve got a 69 Nova that I believe was an L78 and was under it yesterday getting pictures of the single fuel line and noticed the sending unit only has one single 3/8ths line coming out. I’ve done some research but no one’s ever given a set answer. I would assume the L34 would return to the tank through the sending unit?

A L34 would have had a return line. I looked in a 69 Assembly Manual to make sure and it does show a return back to the tank. So, it looks like you have a L78 setup. Post some more pics of the car you have. Guys here love the pics...

Im still looking for info regarding driveshaft stripe colors also. Thanks for replying. |
Part# 6428846 is for a 69&70 L34 Nova and Camaro, and #6427872 should be for the L78 Novas & Camaros. Hope this helps because that's all I could find out.

Being a 3.31 gear car i would assume it would've been m20. |

I found 6428845 as the part number for the 1969 Nova L78 sending unit in my parts catalogue (as shown at bottom of picture) Good luck !

The 3:55 gear (BT) was default for 69/70 L78 Nova, and 3:31 (BS.?) for L34, but could be optioned out anyway you wish. There are old threads here that are specific to BB Nova sending units, apparently there were assembly line some anomalies according to the threads, but who knows for sure. There are also old threads on Dshaft stripes, just have to dig

Thx, always has been a question of what the correct length is on a 69,70 OEM BB 4spd Drive shaft. I too think it is a 52" as well, but...

the other d shaft paint stripe thread I was looking for

I have been looking at 3rd Gen Nova driveshaft stripes for a while. Just not enough examples. There are several known stripe patterns.
In 1968 there are seven driveshaft service part numbers and three yoke types with multiple part numbers. In 1969 there are three driveshaft service part numbers and three yoke types In 1970 there are the three 1969 driveshaft service part numbers plus one new one for 1970 plus the three yoke types. On this site there are reports of three 1969 L78 T. H. 400 (M40) driveshaft combinations. The sparse number of broadcast sheets doesn't help. In theory is there are five combinations: Nova (exc. T.H. 400) w/3-Spd, P.G., 4-Spd Non SS Nova (exc. T.H. 400) w/T.H. 350 Non SS Nova w/2-Dr. (T.H. 350), w/4BC (350) Nova w/4-Spd. (350, 396) w/special 3-Spd, SS w/4Spd Nova w/T.H. 400 (396) With 1969 4 Speed there was an early and late version. Your 69 Nova is late according to the VIN. I would just put back what you found. |
