67 vette protecto plate help
1 Attachment(s)
I have a buddy looking at this car tomorrow. It is a 1967 corvette big block ac coupe. Red with white stinger hood, white/black interior. The plate has the stamps HC and HH where I thought the paint and trim codes might have been. Also no H stamp for Holley on the other side. Any ideas about the HC and HH?
Thanks! |

This is very interesting. I have the tank sticker for 20410 and it is an export car.
I'm posting the Protect-O-Plate for my car that is very close to 20410 for comparison (66 cars later). HC and HH should be where the interior/exterior colors are. Nothing on the tank sticker shows HC or HH either. I have both POP's reversed and attached. The colors are Rally Red with black/white interior. You may also notice that both 427/390 horse motors are built the same day. I'd love the stamp on 20410 for comparison. I'm glad to attach my pad. It is CCAS confirmed. There are some unique characteristics with 427 engines built on 5-25-67 that I can share later. |

Tim, wow you can't provide better information than you have. Way to help a fellow member  |
Steve, we've been communicating by Private Message. I hope it all works out.

I’m no expert, but isn’t there supposed to be an S between the 7 and 1?
|
^ that might be the unique characteristic...

That address does not seem to exist on google earth. But it is a commercial area now, so things may have changed. I tried searching the property records for Montgomery County to see who owned that property on the date of the car, but there is a $25 fee to do a search. If I were an interested buyer, I would pay the $25 to see if the property owner info from 1967 matches the protecto-plate info. |
If you're referring to an S on the engine VIN stamp, no there is not.
|
The property search sounds like a great idea! I am going to try that. Thanks everyone! Any clues on the HC and HH?

I have some rolls of the GM Dymo tape

Is it odd to have zip code where date normally is?
|
Zip code on the protectoplate? Some dealers did include that with the date of sale after.
The first protectoplate show is a replacement, which is why it doesn't have the carb code. Most of the replacements I have seen look just like that and the color codes are often funky. Someone at the dealership had to fill out the form to request one and if they read the info wrong then wrote that, the plate would have goofs. Guy probably misread the suffix code as TL or his handwriting was hard to read on the form. I've seen a few 66 and 67 replacements that had xxx for the color codes. The original owner probably lost the original book. |
S in VIN on engine

It officially started in 68 but some early 66 Corvettes had it and I’ve even got real 67 pads with an S on them
|
Most replacement warranty plates don’t have other data, such as engine, transmission, and rear end assembly codes on them. This one is throwing me.

The problem is that it appears to be in the original warranty book. I suppose that the plate could have been lost very early on before it left an imprint on the book from the original plate. Or this is the original filled with errors? I guess you could speculate that it is fake but the fake ones are not this bad! Who printed the plates? Did they come with the car or did the selling dealer stamp them?
