How many times did we both drive past that intersection on the way back and forth from WIU with no clue about what historical significance it had at the time?

And some of us still don't... :dunno: Something about LaHarpe seems familiar, but that's all.

Fred Gibb's dealership was in LaHarpe

Pasted through that intersection many times....My route to Rick Nelson's place takes me through La Harpe.

I don't recall who told me this but I heard Little Hoss is getting put back to its original Royal Plum livery. Anybody have updates or pics?

Helping to keep the name of Chevrolet competitive was Fred Gibb’s dealership in the small town of LaHarpe, IL.

I’ve always loved the knock-offs on Little Hoss.

Though this sign didn't reference Monmouth, on Friday nights before the Fred Gibb Memorial Show was hosted on the following Saturday in August, a large gathering of people and cars invaded the town of Monmouth.

And down the street from the dealership lived the greatest 4 gear shifter that ever lived on a drag strip. No not Sox, etc. but Fox..

Who is this Fox ?? There are several 4 speed racers known to be "the greatest", but I don't recall anyone with the name of Fox ??

"When the Camaros were introduced,Fred Gibb decided to order a Royal Plum Z/28 to advertise his new performance center.To drive the car,Gibb chose Herb Fox,who had worked at Gibb's agency since 1961 and drag-raced a pretty mean '55 Chevrolet locally.On May 27, 1967,the new Camaro arrived and was officially listed in inventory as a "Demo 302 Camaro Racer."

This show is tonight. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend.

We attended both the Monmouth Cruise In and the LaHarpe Show this past weekend. The LaHarpe show was moved back to it's original location around the town square this year, and directly across the street to the North is the Original Home of "Northside Motors", the Chevrolet and Kaiser-Frazer dealership which became "Fred Gibb Chevrolet".

While in LaHarpe we also had the absolute pleasure of meeting Ms. Jerilyn Fox Bennett, the daughter of Mr. Herb Fox. 'Jeri' is an absolute sweetheart and is very well versed in her father's history. She has also recently joined the Team of local folks who produce the LaHarpe Show.


We had a few opportunities to talk and reminisce about her Dad and she graciously posed for some photos along side of the large display of her Dad, ....... and a few other 'sites'. :grin:

A popular chain of events of many, would train their thoughts toward the first weekend of August, where there would be a significant increase in activity from auto enthusiasts. Three nearby towns would get invaded with cars & owners where many stories of interest would unfold?

Two of those cities are noted on the sign that Dykstra previously posted. Another city that was involved in the enthusiasm on the Friday night’s before the Gibb Memorial Show was the crowd of Monmouth, just up the road.

Noted as the largest show in IL, "The Maple City Cruise Night," is held in downtown Monmouth, IL. organized by Maple City Street Machines on the first weekend of August as an annual event.

Several of the Fred Gibb associated cars would attend this event before the Gibb Memorial Show following on Saturday of the same weekend in the small city of LaHarpe, IL.

Kenny Brown (Mayor of LaHarpe) with Bob Lionberger the former parts manager of Fred Gibb Chevrolet were highly instrumental in the organization of the first Fred Gibb Memorial Show. The legacy of Fred Gibb and the contributions he made for Chevrolet fans were renewed once again by the establishment of this annual show held on the first weekend of August.

It was plum at MCACN this year.
