Was at MCACN per the description. Looks like a super well-preserved car. (NOTE- 427 powered Impala Sport Coupe, NOT SS427 package, brain fade)

Love it!

----Not hard to fall in love with this one! Has anyone ever seen trunk spray like what I see here? Doesn't diminish my love for the car at all. Just asking the question....Bill S

Bill Pritchard 07-19-2022 05:41 PM

Wow. Not really a fan of the full size 67 cars, but this is spectacular.

Charley Lillard 07-19-2022 06:47 PM

I've been drooling over that car for at least a week.

galveston 07-19-2022 11:24 PM

A different option rarely seen is the export windshield wipers... opposing wiper arms vs. parallel arms.
lots of neat options with this car.

scott s 07-20-2022 01:10 AM

So was it a no radio car when new?

Bill Pritchard 07-20-2022 01:39 AM

From the Hemmings ad...

"Original owner, who was a lifelong GM tech, and my neighbor, made certain subtle day 2 changes using GM parts to make this car unique and his own."

That probably includes the wipers and the sound system.

Here's a better photo of the wipers...

This would had to have been an assembly line install, not after production.

Most likely engineered to meet certain countries requirements when exporting for sales.

scuncio 07-20-2022 06:48 PM

Interesting that it has the Vigilite rear lamp monitor off the package tray, but not the front fender lamp monitors.

Yes, that is typical of any Janesville built big car.

One of the many Owner installed day-2 upgrades done by the original owner who was a mechanic at a Chevy dealer. The Rear vigiltes, and the Caprice rear bumpers and tail lamps also.

Yes, another subtle day 2 item the original owner did. There are quite a few. All done when the car was new. I am the present owner. Such a unique car.

Donny, you were the one that figured out many of the day 2 items on the car at MCACN. I thank you for that!! Great story behind the car!

Only original once. You can't duplicate this stuff. All original paint, never hit. Yes, that is the original trunk seal.

I am surprised I’ve never seen this car around. Really impressive survivor.

Those rally wheels just look so “right” on a 67 big car.

Agreed!! Beautiful car!!

I love this car.

This is one I would be afraid to drive.

I would be like the guys that treat a restored rare car like a museum piece.

I'd drive the wheels off a restored car. It can be restored again.

I'd be afraid someone would hit this one.

Yup, that’s the Big problem I have with the low mileage Unrestored Survivors.

All it takes is one clown on their smart phone texting and slams into a virgin old car. The Survivor status just disappeared.

Restored cars ….. drive them, thrash them, as they can be restored again.

Or like we said in High School: "Beat it till it burns oil" Then sell it"

This car's original owner was Hank Newman, a friend of mine for 25 years before he passed. Hank wanted an SS-427 but Chevrolet would not build one with a Bench seat. He wanted the fastback body style so he had one built with a "Strat- o-Bench seat" according to Hank, and every option he could load on it, and what he couldn't, he installed over the counter parts through GM mostly from a Caprice.

As far as not seeing it around, it was in his garage in Hoffman Estates with blankets on it for what I remember a leaking front brake Caliper since the mid 90's and never got around to sending them out be be sleeved in Stainless Steel.

I purchased all his NOS 1966 Impala parts he had collected for his Super Sport 283 Impala he never restored from his Widow.

This is the finest 1967, no stories Impala on the Planet, Barr None. Good luck with the sale. I hope it goes to a worthy caretaker.

Bill

Bill Pritchard 07-22-2022 11:25 PM

Of course it's now a moot point, but wouldn't this be a totally different scenario if Hank had been willing to live with bucket seats and got the SS427 instead?

I am certainly no authority on these cars, but my cousin in Pasadena owned a very nice one repaint Z24, Marina blue/bright blue 4 speed that I would bet money was a Strato-Bench?? I may have pix somewhere..

I shoulda bought that car from his estate...

Thanks Bill. It truly is a one of a kind. I know it’s not as desirable as an SS, but it’s probably the cleanest original L36 equipped Sport Coupe in the country.

I knew Hank since 1989, when I moved in across the street from him in Schaumburg. I still live there today, so the car hasn’t gone very far yet. He told me about the car on many occasions, but I never did see it when he was alive.

It truly is unfortunate he didn’t get to enjoy it again later in life. He really cherished this car.

You are correct about the leaking caliper. Actually every seal in the entire brake system was shot after sitting all those years. I rebuilt and replaced every seal in the brake system. Everything on the car now works as it should. Like a step back to 1967!!
