Went to the really really dark side…

Had both on order for quite awhile and ended up getting both in the last week and a half.
Lucid Air Dream # 414, 1111 hp…simply amazing. Rivian R1T 835 hp Have only had the Rivian for a day so not much to say yet. The Lucid I’ve put a couple hundred miles on and just stepping on the go pedal makes me giggle. I have never driven anything that accelerates so smoothly and this thing is a rocket. What a amazing car for a first time manufacturer. |

Congratulations Charley on your new toys. I know what you mean by the "Go" pedal, I just got my first ride in a Tesla Plaid edition in Drag mode, words can not explain the force it puts on your body on acceleration. Scary Fast!

Congrats Charlie!
I have been watching the Rivian for quite a while now, just not enough $$ in the bank for the switch, plus current driver only has 35K miles, too soon to let it go. |
Wow, I’d like to see that in real life. I’m tempted.
|
How cow, cool!

Really well done video review that actually talks about both, but mostly describes why the Lucid is such a superhero landing for a new manufacturer.

The garage looks kind of empty, do you have your muscle cars in another building?
|
My son test drove a lucid from SF to LA. Toured the factory, met the CEO etc.. he was very impressed and this is a guy that gets to drive everything. I’m curious to see how they hold up in the long run.

This was the title you posted on a previous thread: I never said I was smart., but should have been the title of this thread!!! Only ribbing you a bit! Congratulation on two amazing vehicles.....

Other stuff is in clean building where nothing gets worked on. This is a corner of the work shop where also nothing seems to be getting worked on. |

Remember how fast slot cars were. Lucid is like that. No shifts, just straight acceleration. I have a friend that does track days in his Porsche GT2 RS, Ferrari's etc and he recently bought a Tesla Plaid. Then he bought another. He lowered them and changed the rims. Posted online that they are now the most fun cars he has
|
Both look great and congrats! My buddy just got a Plaid SUV and said it's bonkers fast... his last DD was a '18 X3M and he's no stranger to fast cars.

Slot cars? You got an idea there!
Why dont they make them like the old Aurora AFX cars with separate chassis and bodies so we can swap bodies whenever we want. Remember when you were a kid? I think I had all the AFX Trans Am series cars and the wing cars that I would just find the fastest chassis and then put the coolest body on it and have fun. |
Cool, Charley - jump 'em! All the kids are doin' it ...!!

Congrats! If only they could pipe in solid lifter cam sounds??
|
----Both good looking! I hope you will let us know the towing capacity Of the Rivian when you can.....Bill S
|
Says up to 11000 lbs.
|
----Wow!.....Bill S

Finally was smart enough to try the Rivian in Sport Mode. It also is a giggle machine.
|
Both pretty incredible vehicles. Please continue to post your experiences Charley, as I am sure I'm not the only one interested in how they do on a day-to-day basis, and in the long run. Congrats on being an early adopter of both.
|
I had that Chaparell Camaro slot car, Steve, that was my favorite.
A friend from Daytona picked me up at Mecum Kissimee in a Tesla Plaid and we did stiplight accelleration runs for an hour. My head hurt from banging against the headrest so many times. The strange thing is no noise, a cop could be in front of you and wouldn't hear you taking off. |
Cool... you should get a real charge out of driving those!
|
|
11.6 @111 lol

Embarassing for a petrol head.....but I'm still a petrol head!!!! |
The Petrol guys that hate EVs can still get out of the car or truck after losing the race and say, Mine makes more noise!
|
Vinyl's still rock 'n roll!

Yup vinyl does still rock! My hopes are Charley is silly enough to duplicate the video......I just hope he doesn't make fun of one of our muscle cars. |
How is the fit and finish on these vehicles from small manufacturers? Scares me a bit if I would ever need parts
|
Fit and finish seems great. I have a tiny piece of rubber trim on the Lucid that they are going to come out and replace even though I suggested just using better glue on this one. Rivian had a piece of loose door weatherstrip that I popped back in.

Speaking of electric cars ...
Private golf club. Member is speaking with director of golf operations. Members phone rings during conversation ... it's Tesla asking if he is Ok. Seems Tesla was notified of his car being in an accident. Member explained that he was fine, his car was in the parking lot of the golf club. What triggered the accident notification? Two valets wrote off the car and put themselves in hospital. |
Friend has a plaid, 9.3's in the 1/4 all stock.
Just saw a Rivian in the wild, first one. Nice looking truck. |
|
Charley, Have you tested the range of the Lucid yet?
Really interested to see if it lives up to that claim in the real world, and what is the recharging times? I suffer from range anxiety as I frequently drive longer distances. |
Under normal driving it will probably do 400+ miles on a charge on the 1111 hp model but I'm having so much fun lead footing it the range is probably closer closer to 300. If you are going to go on a trip you can enter where you are going and the car will show you all the charge points along the way and suggest when to charge. This car will take 900 volt charging that will add 300 miles range in 20 minutes if you are at the right charge station. This is all very new to me but OMG this is so much fun. I'll look for the review where they tested it to see if the range claim was true and it was.
