Wow

Crazy right?!
|
Dang that K5 brought back some memories. Parents had a 76 same color only with white side insert.
|
there were some amazing low mile 70s-80s trucks there.
They sold for more then twice what the low mile 70s-80s Corvettes sold for |

Stanger I DID see quite a few nice classics that didn't go as high as I though. Early Mustangs and some baby Birds are a few.

Lot F 198 1965 Poppy Red Hi PO K Code Fastback brought $110,000 ! In 1987 i put that car together from a painted car with half of the interior in it. The engine was on a wooden crate . The Cobra oil pan , valve covers and tri power really made it stand out. I showed my wife the Mecum ad and she responded, That was the car you worked on in the garage and put Scott Jr. in his high chair in the garage when you worked on it at night. He was 2 then!

The LS6 cars didn’t do so great at Mecum and I probably know why. It’s because there were about 50 of them it seemed and my guess is by far most of them were fake and brought the value down of the real ones. You don’t see a bunch of fake Boss 302 and 429 cars and Shelbys. |

a Marti report just gives a bunch of info but nothing you cant figure out online in a few mins. all that 1 of whatever is just BS. |

Where is this vin plate ? The one on the door, that states it's NOT to be used to title the car ? I've worked on/rebuilt 9 first gen Mustangs now and haven't found a real vin tag on any of them. The vin stamp on the left apron is the only other identifier I've found and up here, many of those are rusted away. The ones that were still viable, I incorporated into the replacement aprons. |
68 and up have them on the dash like other makes in addition to the fender aprons.

Thanks, I think there were a couple newer than '67 that needed major front structure replacement, but, apparently, that was too long ago to recall detail...:rolleyes2: |

QUESTION for you guys:
Do you feel, on average, that Mecum and Bj get a higher quality of car then the norm that one would find "shopping"? I know that is sorta a vague statement as sure there are GREAT cars that sell without the help of these auction houses. Just thinking the average like these baby-'Birds or say 64.5-66 Mustangs. |
And the Bob Hirohata Merc went for $1.95MM I believe. I'm just glad that it's still around and looks as good as ever.

1966 CHEVROLET CORVETTE PILOT LINE L88 Did not sell. Anyone know the highest bid? |
Shows 1.1M if there was “real money” on the auction. I didn’t see it go across the block or I could have likely been able to tell.

Mecum website shows no sale amount for this 65 Riviera GS, but I saw it auctioned on TV. When the bidding reached $50K, the reserve was dropped. Bidding kept going and going and going, and it sold for $150K  |
Those mid 60's Riv's are white hot lately, especially the dual quad GS's. Timeless look for sure

Did anyone else notice seeing the C1 “Super Sport” Corvette that I think was some sort of pilot-type circuit car to show off the new fuel injection? I remember seeing it in the Featured Lots and then even saw them featuring it on Motor Trend broadcast…and then it was gone.
Right before it was supposed to cross the block it was nowhere to be found. Never auctioned off and it was no longer listed online. This is all assuming I’m not crazy, which is possible. I felt like I was the only person who noticed. |
There was a controversy on this car and it was pulled from the auction. My understanding is it had to do with ownership rights, not the car itself.

A few months back, the local Acura dealer sent us a postcard wanting to buy my wife's 2007 TSX. We had it in for a warranty service several years ago and I guess they took a stab at us still having it. TOP DOLLAR, was the headline. Just for fun, I called them and asked what top dollar was going to be for a 13 yr old car with 132k on it. Salesman said "wow, that's low mileage for it's age and if it's still really clean, we can go up to $3,300". I told him the car still looked and smelled like new, which it does, but he was about 37k short on his offer. There was a few moments of silence and he said "what do you mean" ?? I asked what a new replacement model would cost and he replied " about 40k. I said there ya go, that car is worth 40k to us, since it's still in pristine condition and we have no desire to sell it. See-ya' bye. |

Bought a '75 Blazer project for $500. A Z/28 in the same condition would have been 30k+. I've got a barn full of them just waiting for me to do a hacktacular restoration on them. |
