Turbonique
3 Attachment(s)
Since my friend Bill Wildt passed away I acquired his Turbonigue stuff now to figure out what to do with it. The Odyssey, the warbike and a bunch of turbonique rockets.
I also found the tire and wheel in the picture with the sticker still on the tire |
Sorry to hear you lost your friend.
The slingshot looks like it would be fun to resurrect and run at nostalgia events. Not sure I'd ride that bike with claimed 6,000 hp and a 4" wide rear tire. The tire would wear to the wheel before you got to the finish lights... |
I saw this on Facebook, John.
neat stuff, sorry about the loss of your friend. :( |
I just listened to a podcast about Turbonique. Look for Brian Lohnes' "Dork-O-Motive" podcast. I've listened to several, and they are fascinating. Lohnes is good to listen to, and he really does his homework.
|
If you really want to know the Turbonique go to You Tube, Motorsport Unlimited, Explanation 17, 18, 19 . That will take a few hours but you will know these inside and out.
|
Thanks Bruce, Bill was a amazing and talented person I will miss him. The only good thing is now the Odyssey will be saved and restored back to its glory days.
|
Thank you for saving it, John. He sounds like he was an awesome guy.
I saw that Darren also posted in the Facebook thread, too. Please keep us updated on everything:biggthumpup: |
Very cool. Met Bill a few times over the yeas and always enjoyed the show.

I finally got everything home its unreal what people collect this is pretty overwhelming but fascinating talking to the people who collect this stuff. We are talking about if they want a Turbonique display at MCACN next year we would do it
|
Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I was thinking that considering he was a part of the Motorsports community there might be some interest in putting his stuff in a museum with dedication to his name? Just a thought.
|
"We are talking about if they want a Turbonique display at MCACN next year we would do it..."
I'll vote yes. RIP Mr. Wildt. |
Yes donating it is one of the possibilities. I am also getting very interested into these rockets and am meeting some very interesting people so just keeping it might be another possibility
|
John, Bill was so popular folks I think would love to see the rides and some big pictures / posters. I know tons of folks who like me watched the show.
Not sure if you'd have time but I bet spectators at World of Wheels would appreciate it all too. |
I wouldnt mind bringing a display to world of wheels. I think the warbike and some turbonique motors. I do not have a trailer big enough for the Odyssey.
|
Such a nice guy, ran into him once in a while, Hero's Subs places like that. He always enjoyed being recognized.
Was the Odyssey raced? |
|
I don't see it.
|
Thats strange I see it there should be a facebook link
|
Might be the item is not public?
|
Are you on facebook? go to Turbonique, Jet and Rocket Drag Racing group and in a couple of posts there is vireos of it running.

Bill Wildt's story on Turbonique gets started at about 15 minutes in. He gets off in the weeds now and then, but it's worth watching the whole thing. Oh, it continues into the next two hour-long videos too, so you gotta really be interested if you wanna hear his story. |
