Camaro Central “Tower” Clamps
1 Attachment(s)
I was talking to my friend Paul today about doing the work on my 67 and he told me to make sure that the Tower clamps I got from Camaro Central had towers. Sure enough…they don’t! Just noticed that the pics on their website don’t have towers either!

Tighten the screw and you will have a tower
|
Do you think they will stretch enough to appear like the originals when tightened?

Thanks! I’ve never seen one flattened out like this before! I guess I have only seen used ones in the past.

Try to hold the forming tower section with pliers as you tighten the screw to keep the assembly in alignment. The repros are not as robust as originals and like to twist or the screw lay over then they are shot before you get them tight.

Will do!

I have found that the repop clamps just don’t allow enough clamping before they fail. I have had luck with using a clamptite safety wire clamp first and sliding the tower clamp over the top and winching up enough to hide wire. No worries about the clamp failing..

Try calling Bill Mock to see what he has left for original Wittek tower clamps. These are a much better quality clamp than anything reproduction. Doubt he'll have the early dates, but he usually has most sizes needed with later date codes.

I swear some tower clamps are made from tin foil!
When needed, I buy repros from Long Island Corvette Supply. They will date code on request. Apply a bit of sealer on the connection, which I've always done anyway, and they usually tighten down without twisting. A spot of lube on the screw helps too. I've never had a leak or failure, even on cars that get driven. Agree that originals are always best. Bill W |
I had to get 4 dated clamps from Marty Mustang in the Phx area. They were good with no issues....Joe
