I've posted this before but its very much a period photo. My uncle's red/red/white top 1970 GTO 455/4sp A/C convertible, a slightly used "new" car to him upon his return from Vietnam in late 70 or early 71, trading in the '68 Dodge R/T I showed in an earlier thread. Trophies aren't from this car-they're actually from his brother's racing adventures in the 60's, mostly with Studebakers. I vividly remember riding in this car, usually heading with him to the CLARK gas station to buy gas and KOOL cigarettes.

why does it have the ram air lV decals on the hood?
|
The Ram Air hood call outs were on the car when he bought it as a low mileage used car from the Pontiac dealer.
|
kinda makes me think of the two lane black top gto. "its got a 455 mark 4 engine"

Vintage Pontiac Advertisements
6 Attachment(s)
Pontiac advertisements and their brochures from 1959 through 1971 had beautiful artwork from the famous Arthur Fitzpatrick and Van Kaufman.
Below are a few of the reflections and shadows that were featured on these awesome illustrations. |
They made these Pontiacs look sexier than they ever were, and they were already sexy. Love Pontiac art!.......bill s

MY buddy from highschool standing on the door of the 70 Judge convertible his dad bought in the mid-70's. Car is still owned by him, I painted 20+ years ago. When we were in highschool we would push it out of the garage in the middle of the night and go street racing - factory 4.33 gears so it's at redline about 90 MPH.

The show is an "invitation only" event (cars are chosen by a selection committee) and benefits the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology. The show is also unique in the way cars are judged, not by how well they are restored (or survived) but by how the design (ie, styling) created trends, enabled technology or reflected the culture. The theme for our specific display was the advertising artwork of Art Fitzpatick/Van Kaufman. I was asked to bring both the GTO and the Grand Prix. As you might expect the vehicles were displayed with the corresponding advertising art. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...1.jpg~original http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...7.jpg~original http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...8.jpg~original http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9.jpg~original http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0.jpg~original http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9.jpg~original http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0.jpg~original http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...1.jpg~original And - we got to keep the posters. A really neat ‘64 GTO consumer catalog that’s inside of a CAR and DRIVER magazine.

A Classic “foldout”
4 Attachment(s)
Here’s another vintage advertisement for the New 1967 GM Muscle.
It happens the be a foldout inside of a CAR CRAFT magazine. Cool ad showing the “Original” American Racing Equipment Torque Thrust wheels that were so popular then and now. On the backside of the foldout are the specifications of the Muscle on front side. |
----I have one of those catalogs tucked away somewhere. It would probably take all day to find it!.....Bill S

That has to be pretty rare. I've read that there were 358 HO 3-speed cars built, but how many convertibles is not shown. Grant |
