Federal Compliance Decal
I know they repop these blue decals for the doorjamb. They all come blank as far as I know.
Does anyone know where they might be available that offers a vin typed in? |

Have no experience with the seller. Have done some of my own in the past... but try finding a type writer today! Also, the current blue decals are pretty glossy and the type is very easy to wipe off prior to the clear decal placement. (not to mention several variations in the blue color and print quality out there) |
Thanks Dave,
Yeah I've replaced these things in the past on cars I've painted, and back then I had an old type writer. My wife got rid of the type writer a couple years ago and yeah....trying to find one now is like a needle in a hay stack. I'm painting my Chevelle, the decal is long gone, and I'd like to replace it. I can no longer find someone with a type writer so I'd like to buy one from a vendor that offers the service of typing the vin for me. I'm not looking for concourse correct, I just want to somewhat replicate what is supposed to be there. |
I used ECS for my 72 Nova vin decal a number of years back and they did a nice job for me. I would use them again...
|
When I google ECS I get a consulting service, and engineering service, and ECS tuning????
|
Google "ESC decals"
|
They do a good job. The font is correct and the labels look factory.

ECS does great work. Very precise reproductions. I have used them on my GM cars for the door decal. You give them the VIN info and they send you the finished decal.
|
Looks like they do date code etched glass too - very cool :)

I had one done 12 years ago by a guy in Arizona, but I can't find the envelope now it came in now. I tried to locate him a couple years ago, when I bought my current '70 Chevelle and couldn't find him. This ECS will be getting my order for one for my current car. Thanks for bringing this up...:flag:
I do have a blank I got from The Parts Place, but it's too aqua colored. |
Are you guys using the date on the trim tag for the decal or are you using the delivery date from the NCRS report?
|
It only displays the month and year, actual day isn't on it. Trim tag info should be good.

I had a couple of these done 8-9 years ago by a guy that was doing decals for many high end restorations back then. He actually types them and used a font for VIN that was a really close match to my original. I sent him a picture of my original to copy. He charge $25 back then.
Not sure if he's still doing them but his name is Steve and his email is [email protected] ECS does a decent job too but they charge $50-60. ECS will do a scan of your original if you send them a picture. |
Thanks everyone. I'll have to look into this further. The original is long gone so no photo opportunity, and from what I've read it appears they need some sort of proof of ownership, which I understand, but I'm not clear on what they will need or how. One thing I'm not too keen on is mailing in any sort of original documentation on the car, so hopefully there is some other way to show proof of ownership that is satisfactory.

I found the envelope with the door decal for my previous 1970 SS Chevelle. I had it made by R.R.Westcott in Scottsdale, AZ. in 2003. Anyone know of him and if he is still around ?
Curious if anyone on here ended up with the car. Last I saw, it had been restored and was for sale in the Fargo, ND area 2-3 years ago. Fathom Blue with black interior. TH400 in a console and power door locks. It should have come with Canadian docs that I passed on to the new owner. If someone has it, I have a compliance decal for it. |
