That is a cool car!

Bill Pritchard 06-08-2020 04:27 AM

Take a look at some of the other cars to be auctioned off, too....a never titled 72 Monte Carlo triple black with 3000 miles (owners demo), new 78 Corvette, and more.

That is probably the nicest, lowest mileage untouched 77 Z in the world. There has to be a hardcore Z collector out there who will pay whatever it takes to own it

That's a beauty!! Back in the late early '80s I dated a girl that had a white '77 Z. It was a nice view to see my '74 sitting next to her '77. Unfortunately I never took a picture. :mad2:

Way overpriced for a smog 77 Z Camaro. Nothing special here. I ordered a brand new 78 Z 4 speed. Wish i had invested that money into many used clean 69 Z-28 Camaro's i could of purchased then.

X2, my first brand new car was a 79 Z. Worst quality car I’ve ever owned. Worst issue was the time on my way home from second shift at Chevy Spring and Bumper, I went to downshift and the 1 & 2 shift linkage fell off on the road, heard it and drove home another 15 miles with 3 and 4. The other thing I remember is it only took about a month for the doors to sound like junk when closed. It did run pretty good and looked great!

JRSully 06-11-2020 11:30 AM

I had a 77 Z for a while, remember it handling very well, but had some of the heaviest doors ever hung on car

The Monte seems to have already hit a world record price for '72 Monte Carlos :)

Wow, $38K with 6 weeks to go in the auction!

Back to the 77Z, I always hated that era when GM painted the Chevy engines blue. I ordered a new 78 Chevy pickup with a 350 V8 and as soon as the 1 year warranty was up, I pulled the engine over a weekend and painted it the 'proper' Chevy orange. Shortly thereafter I pulled the column shifted 3 speed manual and installed a Muncie 4 speed. I was a lot more ambitious in those days....

You probably picked up about 10 HP just with the color change. :)

I remember how bleak things looked automotive-wise back in the late 70's and early 80's. It was looking like the musclecar was soon going to be extinct. At that time very few could envision that 30+ years in the future you could walk into the dealership and order a car that had 500+ HP, could get 25+ MPG on the highway, could outperform a lot of the all-out race cars in the 70's, and still had all the creature comforts like AC, power windows, and leather interiors.

This auction ends this Friday morning at 10am. The 77 z28 is at $36K.

If for no other reason, this is why I have a soft spot for the 77 Z/28. At least Chevy decided to take a shot at performance. This was a first step, and I was so excited to see it back in 1977; and I hate giant bumbers from the 70s.

1976 had to be the low water mark for performance among U.S. produced cars. I have posted many time about an article that Road & Track ran on the fastest cars made in America in 1976.

The fastest car was almost ..... a Chevy truck. Could still get a 454 in the truck. The truck came in second to a Corvette that managed something like 124 mph.

The fastest car Ford could put in the line up was a 302 powered (and I use the term generously) Mustang II, at 105 mph. Can you imagine? Of course you can, as most of you were around. I freakin Focus can do better than that. Hell, my 1.1 liter Opel GT can break 100!

Remember, the horrible performance of the time is what fueled the first wave of muscle car mania.

JMHO, but in some ways, this car was ground breaking (re-breaking) as it signaled Chevy's attempt at muscle.

Yeah, the giant heavy doors suck, and quality control was on par with a Yugo, but still, it was just a glimpse of what was to come.

Sold for $71,500, WOW!

Postsedan 07-25-2020 05:56 PM

The Monte Carlo SOLD for $105,000K

Bill Pritchard 07-25-2020 06:58 PM

They must have pulled in the same bidders as they had at the Lambrecht Chevy auction :eek2:

dvss1 07-26-2020 02:21 AM

Is this the only auction for the Beneventi's? They have or had alot more cars and a couple of warehouses full of parts.

As I said, I have a soft spot for 77 Z/28s, but not a $70k soft spot, especially for an auto.

Bill Pritchard 07-26-2020 05:09 PM

....and nobody should have a $105K soft spot for a 72 Monte Carlo either
