Who here knows 1974 Z/28s
4 Attachment(s)
Friend found this car. Looks to be a rare color? What's the market for these vehicles? Judging by the pics (yes, I know this is a long shot), what do you think it's worth?
Thank you! |
Great find but get within 10' of it and you are upside down.
|
That's pretty rough. They made 13,802 Z28's for the 1974 model year. If I bought it, it would be for parts. It really isn't a restoreable car IMO. Like Charlie said you'd be upside down. As a side note, this is another D88 stripe car. If you ordered stripes, you didn't get emblems.
|
Color me nostalgic but that flat back window, no-A/C, 4-speed Z/28 was the end of an era.
|
how many miles on it?
looks to be low miles with original air filter , AIR system, and ITM shifter ? normally those driver seats are torn up pretty bad |
Remember that color. Was hot looking. Does look to be low miles and super original. Everybody used to ask back in the day what that seat belt interlock thing on the wheelwell was.
|
Remarkably original looking engine though...
|
Completely restored $25-$27K in the original green livery.
IMO..If that car was white it is much more desirable. That car's designation will likely return at some point as a completed car but sadly the original body will not. |
Looks to be code 40 Yellow-Lime. That is rare.

I love the 74 Z's last of the real second gen Camaros. That car would bury you just in parts cost. High side for these is the upper 20$'s
The gold has always been my favorite |

Here is my 900 mile one with no stripes.

Appears to have it's orig. tires on it. Would love to know the history.

There were stock 74 Z/28’s that would wipe the floor with many 60’s era muscle cars. Property tuned they were as fast as a low compression LT-1. CARS magazine hi performance car of the year in 1974 for that reason. |
Thanks for the info on the '74 Z engines, pretty interesting stuff.
Charlie, how does yours drive? I love that one you have. |
Back around the year 2000 that car was still a very nice survivor with its original tires. The interior looks like it just needs a good cleaning, the console is still nice. Shame on that guy or lady.
|
Overall there were quite a few '74 Z28s built, and the 2nd generation Camaro forum NastyZ28 shows production count at 13,802. However the one you found it pretty unusual with the Lime Yellow paint (Code 40) and a 4-speed.
https://nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro74.html As others have mentioned it's pretty remarkable how original the entire car is, especially the engine bay, retaining the original air cleaner, exhaust manifolds, smog, etc. It might be a bear to restore but it would be one cool ride when it's done! |

What a waste, I'm sure it was a good looking car when new.
"flat back window, no-A/C, 4-speed Z/28 was the end of an era..." Yes it was. Even though technology has given us a lot of newer cars with great performance and comfort, for me, it's just not as exciting. I guess I'm just old lol. |
Looks about $65,000 away from being a $25,000 car.

The story on the Z is there are "three" owners. Its been parked there for over 20 years. The trans is owned by one guy, the interior another and one guy died. The yard owner is checking to see if he can sell the whole car. Its complete as can be, the steering wheel is laying on the passenger seat.
The color struck me as odd then I saw the Z28 decal stripes on it. Ive never seen a Z or Camaro that color before. Its rusty. But theres something about that color that I like. My friend is gonna buy it if possible. |
Charley needs to buy that so he can have two very original 74 Z28's........
Though this car may weigh about 20 pounds less than his 900 mile one - due to rust! |
Here's the numbers matching 1974 Z with the same colors and stripes I found a 7 years ago.

Thank goodness someone had the foresight to save whats left of the exhaust by putting it on the passenger seat! A little Evapo-rust will bring that piece right back.
|
I think the '74-only Z28 hood and deck striping are some of the coolest graphics of the muscle period (albeit late in the game). If I ever get another mid-second gen I'm totally going to put those big Z28 stripes on it, even if it's not a '74 as they just look that cool.

Car looks to be very original. I bet it even has the very hard to find TCS switch screwed into the rear of the passenger side head.
Thats the hardest part to find for 74 z's with manual trans. I broke the spade off my original and cant find one. These 74 Z's still had some decent drivetrains in them. Quote:
Heres mine 74 LT Z/28 I found buried under a bunch of stuff in a garage down in Minneapolis. All Original 33,000 mile car that was still on its original tires. It didnt come with the stripe package, but I am tempted. |

I see a Ziebart sticker on the rear bumper of the subject car. If you think it's rusty now, you really wouldn't want to see it if it had never been Ziebarted :eek2:
|
Man I would love to find a 74 Z! Keep the pics coming!!

Is it still for sale?
|
I dont know if he sold.. he was asking in the upper 30s for it. It was in 2016 I looked at it. He's the original owner with all the paperwork too.
|
is it a column shift car
|
I'd love t o have a few of those Ziebart stickers. My Mom's 81 Z28 had one in the window when she bought it in 83. Anyone know who could make some?
