BIG NEWS from central Indiana , 69 Daytona discovered
11 Attachment(s)
I was chatting with a neighbor last summer about a truck in his driveway , it was a crusty rusty Dodge Little Red Express Truck .
As we chatted about old cars he told me he had a Daytona in his garage . I said 'what kind of Daytona' and he said 'a 1969' and I said 'you mean a wing car? ' and he said ''yes' .... I asked to see it and he was really skiddish and wouldn't show it to me ...... As time passed he finally showed it to me but wouldn't let me take pictures to show to a friend of mine . FINALLY he had it out in the driveway today !!!! AND I got the pics and have already looked it up on a Datona registry I found online and its an unknown car never documented on the registry I found , delivery #500 in production and VIN was all they knew ... He told me he bought it brand new in 1970 at the local dodge dealer Goeke Dodge Chrysler Plymouth in Noblesville IN for around $4000 ! Its a 440 car 4 speed dark green . All original car with 28,000 original but it does have some rust BUT is overall decent condition with original paint , front fenders are rusty , car is nice and straight down the sides ...... Here's some pics I captured today !!!! |
Wow!

Being from Indiana, that certainly doesn't look rough to me but what a great find right here in the Hoosier state. Thanks for sharing.
|
that's great. I really miss my wing cars. have sellers remorse from time to time, like right now.
|
That was rough a 28.000 miles
|
I would venture a guess that the 28K were probably the easiest part of it's life. Likely poor storage that got it to this point, still amazing it exists in this condition. Gotta wonder about the hood replacement, must have occurred some time ago when those kind of parts were still to be found.
|
The Daytonas used a stock 1970 Charger hood (nice how Dodge used a time machine to go forward in time and bring parts back!). The Fenders were 1970 Charger, too, but with the bottom front cut and flanged to mate with the nose belly pan instead of a front valance.
Another salt+storage victim, but a neat car nonetheless. |
It's a shame it wasn't better taken care of for a low mile car. Must have been stored outside for some time...
|
That is awesome, and again proves...they are still out there!
What are the owners plans? Would love to see this one at MCACN for BF/HG's! Bashton |

That is cool!
|
Way cool. Agreed for MCACN!

a salty car put away, a good rinse before storage would have been a great help.

Hope your friend doesn't mind you posting pics.
Very cool car. I passed on a hemi powered (at least I remember it as a Hemi, guess it COULD have been a 440) Superbird in 1976. May be the second dumbest thing I ever did. |
Lynn , i passed on the grey 71 hemi cuda convertible for 275k that was in hemmings decades ago. But it would have been alot worse if I had actually bough it,them sold it. ... Lol

IF WE ONLY KNEW!!!!!!!!!!! |
I crushed a 1969 Z24 convertible 427 4 speed in 1978. Talk about who knew. I still have the title and motor. Dave.

I sold the yellow/white 71 hemicuda convertible for $54K about 35 years ago. (I bought it for $24K a year earlier after everyone else passed on it for being too expensive) Is there a COL emogi? (Cry Out Loud) |

I remember standing beside Rene's car and saying it was 10X what I was paying for a 440+6 Cuda.....But I bought my car a few years earlier. Always wondered where it went and where it is today? Nevermind, I see it is in Kevin Suydam hands now. |
A Mopar burnout guy I went to high school with found a '70 Cuda our senior year ('86.) Paid $1000.00. TorRed, V Code 440 6bbl, Shaker, billboards, Ralley's and 727. No rust and slightly faded paint. Supposedly an ex Ramchargers race car we were told. Remember the trans case painted with orange and black stripes down the case (Fairbanks trans?) Sounded mean as hell. Saw it run at Detroit Dragway. Went 13.90's baking the dead, dry tires down the track. Intake /carb setup was eventually traded for a tunnel ram with two 660 Holley's. Then the younger brother hit a house next door and another primered front clip was on it the next and last time I saw it. Idiots.

For what it's worth, this is not an unknown car. Maybe it's been MIA for awhile, but it was registered with the Daytona/Superbird club around 1979.
