Parchment vinyl top

I'm needing to get a vinyl top for my 69 Camaro. It's parchment. Everybody I've talked to so far only has white. Has anybody had to cross this bridge? Thank you, Joe

Have you tried SMS Auto? I spent months looking for a brown vinyl top for my 69 GP, they sent me a sample of their material and it was perfect. Best of luck.

I'll give them a try. Did you get a top from them?
I had a huge blowout with them when I was trying to get mohair for my 1933 Chevrolet. Thank you, Joe

SMS....great out of the gate but they absolutely get an F for customer service. Having said that, I'd use them again because their quality is second to none, and they have materials that you just can't find anywhere else. I kinda feel sorry for their staff, I know they're instructed on just how to deal with the customer and they seem very personable face to face, they just won't answer the phone. That leaves the customer communicating via email and getting enough info to sell you something, then they ignore you until your item is ready, which is measuered in years. Again, they are an awesome resource, but as a customer, you need to know what you're in for. Buying material ala carte is much more satisfying than using their fab service.

I have not ordered a top from them yet but will soon, hopefully I don't have any customer service issues. I was planning to have them make seat covers and door panels for my Z28 too since they have all the original material required, sounds like I better do some more investigating before I take the plunge on that, thanks for the heads up on that guys.

I did. Kee doesn't have parchment. They only have white. Thank you, Joe

What is your car that you would need your interior special made?...Joe

carnut4life 02-20-2020 10:26 PM

I've got a orange/orange 69 COPO Camaro and an 81 Z28 that I'm restoring with silver deluxe vinyl interior. The Z28 is the car I'm going to get door panels and seat covers made for. Legendary has told me they'll make a new set of orange seat covers out of NOS material if I send it to them so I figured I would have to do the same with my Z28 until I found out SMS makes everything in house now.

Al knoch would make you an interior using your original vinyl/cloth & they can redo your original door panels. I had my yellow ones done there.

I love the space man suit interior :)

I purchased a Parchment top from Kee and it was spot on with the sample from the 69 Dealer manual- color and pattern
I did have an issue with the first top I purchased due to delamination which they were very responsive and sent me a new top right away

Not sure why they gave you the answer they did, request a sample and see for yourself

Thanks for that response Fred. I will call again. Did it have the correct seam widths also because what they were telling & what I saw on a friends car were too narrow on the skirt?. I must've looked at every Camaro at MCACN to make sure what I was seeing was correct.

Here is a picture of a known correct original top ..Thank you, Joe

L78 Fred 02-21-2020 12:57 AM

I will have to double check, the car is not at my house
I believe they were correct -but I will verify
Thank you for the picture and measurements
Question - Measurements- inside- inside or CL-CL?

X66 714 02-21-2020 01:38 AM

I had to blow it up but it's odd. It appears to be outside to outside on the top part but inside to outside on the skirt or center to center. I didn't do this picture. It was sent to me years ago. Let me know what you have please. thank you, Joe

Called Kee this morning. Samples on the way. I have a dealer book to compare with.
After examining the picture I posted & other pictures I have, it looks like the outside of the seam on the skirt is or probably was supposed to be even with the inside edge of the back window stainless...Joe

X66 714 03-01-2020 12:38 AM

Update. The parchment from Kee is now off white & is too bright compared to the original sample in the dealer album. Both Kee & SMS are heavier on the grain but SMS parchment matches the color in the dealer album. I hate dealing with SMS but I guess I have to. I hope they will be able to use the measurements I've provided in the previous picture...Joe

We had SMS sew covers out of original comfort weave and were told 2 months. Many people told me to expect a year or more, we received them in 6 months worse than quoted but better than Expected?

X66 714 03-01-2020 07:40 PM

It took them over a year to provide mohair for my 33 Chev. I guess I better call tomorrow :)

If I had it to do over... I would just order the fabric and then have my local interior guys stitch the seats from the original -using the disassembled deconstructed covers as patterns. (which is what SMS had us do - send in one old front cover the rear top and one rear bucket)

Keep us posted on this link. I still don't know what to do. At 85.00 per yard & 5 yards, just the material could get expensive. If it's dyed & not actual parchment then the dye could become an issue during heat sealing....Joe
