Corvette Bronze ‘68 SS/RS 396 convertible
1 Attachment(s)
I’ve been toying with doing this, so here goes...
I’m selling my 1968 Camaro SS/RS 396 convertible. She has just over 72,000 original miles and is equipped with her original matching L35 396 (born with) motor, TH400 Auto transmission, and equipped with standard black interior (all mint original), AM/FM radio and manual convertible top (in mint original condition). Other than a repaint (in a knock your socks off correct shade of Corvette Bronze paint), this car is an incredibly nicely preserved survivor. Under the hood has been preserved in all original survivor condition with original smog, etc. Mechanically, she runs and drives great. Everything works including the vacuum operated headlight doors. The brakes, steering and suspension have all been refreshed, the body received all new mounts and bushings, and she received a brand new gardener exhaust. Nicely documented with original warranty book and POP, original title (in the original owner’s name), etc. $56,900 |
One picture.....Really ?????

A few better photos... can anyone confirm what an original convertible top boot should look like?

The rally wheels are unrestored and tires are Firestone Wide Oval Super Sports (don't know what vintage the tires are, but they ride nicely and are in mint condition). I know, I know... the rally caps are '67s and the trim rings are missing... long story. I will try and find a correct set of 68 caps and trim rings.

I'm getting better at resizing the photos!
Here are some good shots of under-the-hood. Once again, I know it could use a detailing, but some of that grease and dirt is nearly 51 years old so I can't bring myself to scrubbing it away. I'll leave that for the new owner to decide. The car received all new brake lines, fuel line, body/frame mounts/cushions, control arm bushings, rad support cushions, etc. The radiator has a little bit of a drip and the tranny pan could use a new gasket. The car gets a lot of attention when the hood is up! |
The smog pump doesn't have a belt on it because it had a little bit of a rattle.

Both doors received NOS GM weatherstripping. They open and shut like brand new.

The AM/FM works nicely

The original trunk floor and spatter are in excellent condition with no rust. How often do you see that in a 50 year old convertible from Michigan!
I meant to plug that bulb back in before taking the photo... |

Oh, and the car was originally equipped with a posi rear...

Nice original plating on the hood latch, hinges, etc.

All new hoses from the rally sport vacuum tank to headlight doors, etc. Headlight doors open and shut nice.
It's a Michigan car, but people believe that its a California car! I will swap that CA plate for a correct 1968 Michigan plate. |

If anyone wants to see any specific photos, let me know what you'd like to see.

Why was the exterior painted. Larry
|
There was a little bit of rust in the usual places. Since it had been painted once before (a long time ago, and poorly done), I decided to have it repainted.

While I think of it, I would like to give Ed Bobowicz of Camaro Specialties the credit he deserves for providing me with his PPG paint formula to recreate the Corvette Bronze paint on my car. I contacted Ed after I saw this Yenko Camaro that Camaro Specialties had restored.

Price is being reduced

As the saying goes, I have far more into this car, than what I'm asking for it, and there will come a time when I'll regret selling it. This car has less rust than any California car I've owned.
I'm reducing my asking price to $52,500 USD or will consider a respectable offer... before I resort to putting it on eBay. |
Wow, you are definitely going to regret selling this one. Just beautiful.

Here is a photo of the rear axle stamp. The PG code is for a 3.07 posi ratio, and the 04 25 (April 25) date corresponds with the car's 06A build date.

http://i.imgur.com/XsPXxGv.jpg That reminds me of when I was discussing this car and it's originating dealer Bill O'Shaughnessey Chevrolet in Dewitt, MI. many years ago. A member on this site contacted me and sent me this original unused dealer sticker for the car! The sticker is slightly lifting from the backing so I was concerned that it may not stick properly, so I haven't installed it yet. Thanks again to that member... this site is awesome!! http://i.imgur.com/7N75Uva.jpg |
The original set of keys are still with the car.
http://i.imgur.com/maAHjYm.jpg Thought I'd post a photo of the original tire pressure sticker in the glove box. http://i.imgur.com/uV9d37E.jpg |
Were the door jambs painted over when you did the repaint? They look original. If so, how did you feather the new paint into the old?
If you are interested in selling the CA plate, I may be interested. Although I have been thinking about having a reproduction CA plate made made to duplicate the vanity plate that the second owner had on the car. |
The door jambs are still the original paint on the doors. I believe my painter rolled back the edge of the tape on the edges of the doors so there is no visible paint line.
I plan to use the CA plate on another car. I've had a set of the reproduction plates made, and I think they're very good quality. |
Spring time sale... price reduced to $49,900 USD.
BTW, after having a closer look at the convertible top, I believe the convertible top may in fact be the original born-with convertible top, but the rear window appears to have been replaced in 1993. The top has no rips, tears or holes but could use some gentle scrubbing depending on the look you want. I prefer the top looking original. If anyone can tell me ho to tell for sure, please let me know ho and I'll look into it further. |
Price reluctantly reduced to 45,900 USD.... killer deal for a great car!

The Camaro was looking particularly photogenic last night...

Summer is here. Nobody needs a gorgeous driver for $49,900??
I took her out for a long drive to a little town having a car show a few weekends ago and, after driving an hour each way on a hot day with the top down, this completely stock 396 (with a fresh rebuilt carb) sipped less than a quarter tank of gas! http://i.imgur.com/MvfqD1c.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uZSguzd.jpg |
