----I hope some of you Ford members can help me with an approximate value of a very nice 1970 Torino 429 Super Cobra Jet. I have no pics but am primarily looking for a value range and know next to nothing about these muscular Fords. HELP!!!...…..Bill S

Lots of variables. Need to know more as far as condition, original parts, options etc. Any where from 10,000 to 80,000.

Bill, I have a thing for '70 Torinos and SCJ is a big bonus. Documented Shaker hood, good color, Drag Pak, and 4 speed are big bonuses. Get the Marti report for all details of how/when the car was delivered. Torinos are BIG bargains compared to similar sized hi po GMs and Mopars. I'll let the gurus guide you from here. Would love to see some pix.

SCJ's are hard to find. And to find one with a floor shift(auto or 4 speed) is even harder. If you can find a real SCJ with ram air(which was optional) with a 4.30 Detroit locker, 4 speed/consolr, great color combo is mint shape, expect to pay at least $75-90k

Great you're checking in as it's amazing how many members here either have or are into these cars.
I like the Post car Falcons and that Yellow 429 SCJ advertised here last year seemed a cool deal, no idea if it ever sold or not...

SCJ is a Holley carb , 4 bolt main and solid lifter engine . Due to the Holley , it had a smog pump. Nodular center section in the 9 inch . SCJ has an oil cooler . Driver quality car brings 40k if complete . Nice correctly restored will bring 65 to 90 K. Parts are hard to find as they are low production cars . 429 SCJ = LS6 in go power.

SCJ also had a factory dual point dist. with a 4 speed . They be badass cars !! Rust in the floors at the seat braces. Rust in the cowl/windshield area needs close inspection. The metal was never primed from Ford and they rust in strange places.

You don't really state what model it is. Is it a Torino proper, or you're using a generality for the mid-size line?

----I do know that this Torino is not a Falcon, but is yellow and was pictured in Hot Rod Mag several years ago. The car was called "Yellow Jacket" at the time. I want to thank all for the insight. VIN 0R38C133173 was the '87 HotRod 'Yellow Jacket' car, try Googling w/ the letter O as the first digit instead of correct Zero for lots of ads/pics.
Looks like the 5'th VIN digit C indicates a 429 CobraJet, not a factory Ram Air car which would have a J like the 70.5 Falcon previously linked?:hmmm:

Torino Cobra

Torino GT
Torino Brougham

The Cobra, Torino, and GT were available as fastbacks. All models were available with the SCJ.

And to add, the convertible was only available on the GT

Weren’t there a couple of King Cobras (aero cars) made in ‘70?

All King Cobras were Cobras with aero pieces added. There never was an official King Cobra produced.

I can't read the article and don't know if it addressed that but can one tell by the Vin? How much of a drop in value if any would there be with the lack of a shaker?.....Bill S

Bill - see Pete's break down from yesterday's post below. "C" in VIN indicates CJ not SCJ - is the article about the car you are inquiring about?

This is partially incorrect. The SCJ is a CJ with the Drag Pack, so you can't tell by the VIN, but the car could be an SCJ.

The key is looking at the data plate. If the axle code is for 3.91 or 4.30, then 99% sure it's a SCJ.

Thanks! Would a casting no. on the block differentiate the 2 bolt (CJ) from the 4 bolt main (SCJ)?

Maybe....I have keeping that straight. I think it may be true for SCJs and 1971 CJs, but not sure.
