Muncie stamp

1 Attachment(s)
It has no VIN, no CT , and no A, B, or C end stamp...seems to be a '70 unit given the zero after the P...guesses as to what happened here? Or simply an April 12th 1970 Muncie that did not get stamped...it is in a '69 Vehicle so not original to that car.

What is the case casting number. Looks like a 5010 case stamping which would make it a 66-67 trans. Larry

Vin could be stamped on top of the case

Thanks Larry, I think you're right - it's an earlier case than '70 : 3851325.

That is a 64-65 case with the smaller pin. It shows the trans was assembled on April 12th of one of those years. From memory, I believe it is 1965 because 64 has the assembly code on the cover side of the trans.

Take a look at the raised boss on top of the case at the rear. If it's rounded, it's '64. If it's square, it's '65.

A couple years back there was a discussion about the top boss of a Muncie main case, and everyone was of the same belief, 1964 and older rounded, 1965 and newer square...

I thought I had seen 1965 cases with the round top boss...

So I went thru 75+ 325 cast Muncie main cases, and sure enough early 1965 model year Muncie main cases have the rounded top boss...

The change over came (from my observation) 2nd week of December 1964 calender year rounded , 3rd week of December 1964 calender year square...

I'm traveling right now so I don't have the exact dates with me...

Hope this helps... Crash

Thanks Crash. That helps my research in tracking trans VINs.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but anyone ever seen a stamp like this? I cannot say I have. It's from a 71 Corvette with 15,000 miles and shows no sign of ever having been out. It almost looks knurled to me

I found my notes on the change over date of the top casting...

The latest round casting I have is P1203 (Dec. 3rd 1964)

The earliest square casting I have is P1214 (Dec 14th 1964)

Hope this helps... Crash

Was there a thread on trans stamps that were light (hardly readable)? I am working on a 73 Corvette right now what the stamp can hardly be read.

Thanks,
Tim
