'69 Possible L78 Camaro with Barrett-Jackson History

Sharp car.

Just FYI...this car was sold last year at the LV Barrett Jackson auction for $49,500 and I can't find any confirming statements that the engine is original - maybe someone knows the car and can provide feedback.

Today, the car is being sold for $80k and is being touted as a "matching numbers L78." I've included a pic of the stamp adjacent to the oil filter flange in case anyone is curious.

Me thinks it a fake. I have seen a vin stamp by the oil filter on a Norwood pre 2nd week of December, so not out of the question. The only ones I have seen on early cars were October dates, not November, like this car. I also have my doubts with the stamp being legit by a few things I see, but won’t elaborate so as not to help the fakers. Just my humble opinion.

I also have my doubts. Most sellers of L78's and Z28's do not include pics of documentation or engine/trans/rear stampings and any other useful information so that the buyer can make the proper decision on purchasing the car. It may be on purpose.

No black tail light panel.

Is it just because the rear end is hanging down or is that drive shaft way too short? And adjust those headlight doors.

I looked at the car it is a FAKE, MANY INCORRECT ITEMS BUYER BEWARE. 35-40K Have fun driver car.

I agree the VIN stamp is odd. Didn't give me a good feeling about the authenticity of the rest of the car.

Billohio 07-08-2018 04:36 PM

The fact you can see the VIN stamp concerns me!

Hotrodpaul 07-09-2018 01:48 AM

Most of the stamps I have seen are incomplete and very faint.

I cannot say I am an expert as I have had a bunch of help from you guys on this site buying my own stuff. But this car although really nice and an impulse buy could cost you tons if you did not know what your looking for.

No kidding! I learn a lot from reading the posts here....

35-40k car on an honest day. That tag is FAKE, NO WAY JOSE and the the motor well sorry not original. I do like it but for a clone.

Jonesy 12-14-2018 07:21 PM

Yep, that VIN stamping is not legit on that engine. Hockey stick stripe is wrong also.

Agreed, the depth of that '7' is like something you'd see on an aluminum block.
