Helping a friend buying 69 Z28

6 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and would like to ask for some help with regards to a 69 Z28 for sale at a dealer here are the pics he was sent just wondering if anyone knows anything about this car or if any of these pics look questionable.
vin #124379N678242 Gold Black stripes. Thanks Jim

Also if anyone Knows of a nice 69 Z28 for sale let me know please.

The badly pitted VIN tag would be a problem for me.

IMHO, entire drivetrain is not original to the car.

X66 714 05-01-2018 11:36 PM

That car must've been extremely rusted....Joe

Trans is clearly a restamp.
I agree with Bill.....

Tracker1 05-02-2018 12:20 PM

That's one of the nicest, clearest down-by-oil-filter stamps I have ever seen - every number almost the same depth and separation. So I call BS on the engine stamp.

Kurt S 05-02-2018 03:01 PM

Be careful on extrapolation. I think the engine VIN is wonky, but the pad looks OK.

Jonesy 05-02-2018 03:46 PM

Engine is too early for that car IMO. Hince the restamp of the partial VIN.

I think the rear is too early also. Put together car using parts from other cars.
Not a $70K z/28.

No issue with DZ date stamp , I was referring to the engine stamp of the
VIN being BS. Cheers

Ricks72Z28 05-02-2018 06:00 PM

I would also have to see the hidden vin#.

The Boss 05-02-2018 06:18 PM

This car probably had a better looking VIN tag.

Jimmyshoe:

This dealer has three 1969 Z/28s that he is planning on running through Mecum's Portland Auction (June 22+23). If you click on the Hemmings URL it will take you to the White one. There is a CONTACT SELLER green button . . . if you are interested.

Just trying to offer alternatives - I know absolutely nothing about the cars

olredalert 05-02-2018 08:36 PM

----That white 69 looks like one I restored and had to pull apart after showing it at MCACN and repaint it because of a painter who liked weed way more than he liked the Camaro. Changed shops and it came out beautiful the second time around. The one I did had an Endura bumper, but different people since I did the job took a bunch of very good parts off of it so the bumper may have been changed as well. Due to the rarity of the combo (we thought it was the only Z ordered in these colors) it is really rare. Maybe there is another. Who knows?........Bill S

Wonder what the cast date is!!

Hard to tell if the white car has a red or orange interior....

Most are cloned. Some done very well. Buyer beware.

Jimmyshoe 05-04-2018 12:15 AM

Thanks

Thanks everyone for confirmation of everything I saw on this car and l relayed your comments to my friend. He has great intentions but this is the 3rd car he wanted me to waste my time going with him to look at. There are so many scammers and dealers with cars that are very "Questionable". JIM

Jonesy 05-04-2018 02:58 PM

Its always best to check things out before you buy. The car you brought up in the first post is a prime example. I see this all the time.

JTH74 05-07-2018 08:41 PM

My favorite color on any 69 Camaro.

It just gets worse with every decade, especially 69 Z/28's. Easy to get turned off on these now that undocumented one's are 70k.

x33rs 05-08-2018 12:27 PM

What is it they say.....imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

I agree JT, we love the golds, my wife especially. The gold color is what prompted my wife to buy our Formula. I paint for a living and get tired of seeing all the blacks and reds. Nice to see the greens and golds.

Jimmyshoe 05-09-2018 03:25 AM

Well after looking at a few and taking time to find a nice car that I would be more than happy to claim ownership myself , I'm Happy and honored to tell everyone that JohnZ's Green 69 Z28 Survivor Is in new Loving hands.

Lynn 05-09-2018 03:33 AM

Wow. Your friend got a winner there.

Kurt S 05-09-2018 03:51 AM

Didn't know that it was for sale...

Jonesy 05-10-2018 06:55 PM

Thats a good one for sure!! Congrats!!

Geez that listing makes you think that is a great car with original parts. About makes you sick. Stuff like that is why I would steer clear of places like that

Lynn 03-31-2020 03:17 AM

That engine COULD be original to the car, although a late August car would be much less likely to get a June engine than and early August car.

Agree that the partial vin by the oil filter is bogus. Never seen one that deep or clear down there.... unless it was a restamp.

Plenty to nit pick. If it were a console / gauge car, it should have a clock. And I really don't get the dented subframe on a restored car. Pic of the badly rust pitted VIN tag is absent in this listing.

Just another reason you don't buy a high end car without having a qualified person check it out in person.

PeteLeathersac 03-31-2020 04:18 AM

Nicely done Jimmy, you're a good friend!
