T3 Headlights 1969 Nova
Looking for T3 headlamps for my 1969 Nova SS
where to buy them? Are the repops close to originals? what are the differences? TIA |
You can buy them at Lectric Limited. The difference between originals and repops, if you look in the upper corner of the bulb the repops have a very small "DOT" running vertical. The originals do not. Others very well may have noticed other differences. I can tell you from experience, putting the originals in can be a PITA. You install one and in a week they burnout. They are also very dim. But if you are showing the car and not driving at night go for it.

I have used their headlamps on a couple of my cars and have been satisfied with them. |
I've got a bunch of the old T3 headlights, and every time I test one to see if it works it burns out in a few seconds and turns the inside of the bulb white.

my 69 04c nova has power beam headlamps, what's in yours now?
|
One is a Wagner Sealed Beam and one is a TS sealed beam.

----I smoke original headlamps all the time anymore. Don't quite understand, but LL has stepped up to the plate.......Bill S

They are called sealed beam for a reason. Sealed with a inert gas. After sitting for years, even NOS ones, the seal around the contacts leak and as soon as you fire them up they smoke. It is very scetchey buying old lamps, JMO. MIKE |
There's a guy that sells T3's at the Packard Prov grounds swap here in the Detroit area, it's in May, I'll get his number. He has a whole table of them. But you'll have to wait till spring. Lol
^ he's rite, I was hunting down OG guides for my 78, it doesn't take much to make them smoke. Pita trying to get all 4 working, then you gotta get a few spares. |

T-3 Headlights
From what I have learned over the years, Power Beams started June of 70.

Power Beams on my 1970 Nova first week of April. They have the letters GM in a little circle at the bottom. I believe these are original assembly line, and, at a local car show I saw these same Power Beams on a 1969 Camaro.

I've taken originals and put silicone around the terminals to help keep them sealed. Don't know if it works but so far so good. Our 01B 68 still has the originals in with date stamps showing made in Nov. 67. |
I bought a couple of sets around 2004-05 when they first came out. The link I provided shows they are currently selling them.

The parts place has reproduced them. I bought a set and they look great. Much less expensive than Latric limited too.

I'm not sure of the exact transition week, but I've documented Deuces built in 05D, 06A and 06B with Power Beams - not to say that some may still have T3's though....
|
Didn't Norwood do a video on how to modify those and use a bulb in them?
|
modify a sealed beam?
|
The lenses can be cut off burnt T3's and glued to modern bulb insert style headlights (with the plastic lens cut off). I did it but broke one of my set and haven't turned up a matching T3 lens to replace it... I put the repops in.
Thin cut off wheel working very slowly around diameter will cut off the lens... patience. Glue the lenses on with clear silicone. Gary |
