69 Camaro Wiring Harness Confusion
4 Attachment(s)
I have this NOS engine wiring harness that is supposed to be for a V8 without gauges. The assembly manual does not list a large pink wire that appears to be for a temp sending unit. The reproduction harness does not have the pink wire. Also, the temp sending wire is supposed to be in the front lamp harness.
So, what is this pink wire? |
Possibly for an idle stop solenoid.
|
Is there a black stipe on it? May be connected to the horn relay ... TAZ
|
Can't tell from your pic, but looks to be in the position the purple starter wire should be.
Is there a large purple wire just below that one? |

OK. So would a 307, 4 speed with factory air conditioning get an idle stop switch? |
Believe so -- when the A/C cpmpressor kicked on the solenoid would kick the throttle ... some were on the same circuit ...
I think that is what you're asking ... TAZ |
I will check the assembly manual tomorrow. If it was an A/C specific thing it should be under the C60 section.
|
All the later harness came with that Idle stop solenoid wire. Just cut it off if not needed.

Agree, the service replacements may have all been made this way.
Geeez, did I just agree with Charley :smirk: For future re: |
Don't cut it off, tuck & tape it back best you can if your going to use it on a vehicle.
I've seen a few stock guys looking for this harness, only to find em with the idle stop wire cut off. :( |
There's no way I would cut it. I'll either use it and get a solenoid or get another harness and run without the solenoid.
I'd still like to know if the car would have come with one originally. There is nothing in the assembly manual that I could find and it seems that some cars had them and others didn't. I have seen pictures of cars with an automatic trans having them but have not seen a picture of a small block with manual trans having one. Does anybody have a survivor with one? |
Its for cars with Auto trans. T-350 or T-400. Look on UPC M-35 sheet A25. Manuals wouldn't need them. Prevents dieseling/run on after shutting off.
