4,000 mile '69 Z/28

Pretty hard to believe but I suppose it's worth looking into.

I wonder what happened to the speaker grille on the top of the dash. Pretty ugly hole there, maybe a mechanical tach?

October 1968 car with a special ducted hood?

Charley Lillard 07-13-2017 05:24 AM

And a black grill. Why no dust flaps on inner fenders. Old drag car ?

Looks like an interesting car. Ad doesn't say much! Or is the text in white?! You might be right about a mechanical tach running through the dash. There is some duct tape just above the heater box which looks like it's covering a hole through the firewall. I'd like to see more pictures.

Probably sold new at EB Smith, he lived 3 miles from there. The registration says it was used when Mr Beasley bought it and has a former title #. I remember Larry De Coursey was the Comptroller when I worked there, he had to sign for him and he notarized it. They used the Commerce Union Bank down the street for financing so I would say that's where it came from.

Certainly the hood, grill and exhaust were changed. I like a lot of what I see under the hood. Yes the fender dust flaps have been removed, brake line repaired, repop tires, alternator & some clamps replaced, windshield squirted missing etc....but it has the type of patina you'd expect. It's certainly has had some things changed for a 4K mile car.

Interesting it was sold 10 months after it was delivered.

Alternator has been replaced.

As vague as it's described, there's surely some info that tells the real story of the car and why it was parked? States a factory 302 but nothing said about anything else makes me think it's a transplant perhaps. Maybe it sat with a blown motor since then. :)

The car is a factory DZ 302 with 4K original miles. The car has been parked and unregistered since 1969. The car starts runs and drives as it should. I have all the original documents for the vehicle

Cowl hood parts missing? Splice in brake line.

----Yup,,,Not only the lack of inner fender flaps but no holes for the staples!......Bill S

Bill I first thought the same thing but if you look closer there are staple holes in the right side inner fender and possibly 2 staples in the back part of it

Im sure the hood was added over time. Nothing new on these cars as we all know. Who knows the reason for the grille swap. The brake line was probably a line lock at one time and yes the dash was most likely knocked out for a tach drive cable. I dont see anything out of line (from the limited photos) per say as it was more than likely raced early on. IF anyone is seriously interested in the car I can go look it over and take photos. Just pm me. I have no ties and do not know the car and also have zero interest in it. Just thought I would offer up a service.

I will say this. I wouldnt count on the majority of the drivetrain to be original but I could be wrong.

I contacted the seller and asked:

oldgasoline:

Why did it sit from 69 onward, and why nothing on the numbers matching?

Was it blown up or was it a race car in the past? I'd appreciate knowing more.
His response was this:

The car was raced in 1969 and ran a fast enough time that it needed a roll cage put in it. So my wife's grandfather just parked the car in his garage and saved it for a rainy day. The car was parked with 2800 miles. It has only been driven up and down the road for all the years to get to 4K miles.
I then asked what motor was in it since he claimed it ran fast enough to need a roll bar, and asked why no info about the engine, trans and diff numbers matching?

His answer was even weaker.

It definitely did with this motor. It's 1/8th mile track.
